The Canadian Pacific Railway is Canada's first Transcontinental railway. The CPR had a significant amount of wooden coaches that they used for virtually every purpose. These wooden coaches were cheap to build, due to Canada's abdundance of forests, but they didn't last very long before having to be repaired due to wood rot and weathering. The solution was introduced a short time after 1910, when some of the older, smaller coaches were scrapped and the larger ones were given metal plating on their exteriors. These coaches lasted from the time of their construction all the way up until the mid 1960s, when they were no longer suitable for the commuter services they were put on at the end of their careers.
