NS Mat '54 ELD4 (Yellow/Light Blue)

描述
NS Materieel '54 ELD4 (Hondekop) (Yellow/Light Blue)

Materieel '54 (Mat '54) was a series of two and four coach electric express (and later intercity) trains that roamed the Dutch Railways (Nederlandse Spoorwegen or NS for short) between 1956 and 1996.

The most prominent visual features are its characteristic nose, which earned it the nickname "hondekop" (dog head/face), and its two-arm pantographs.

Through the years Mat '54 has appeared in a wide variety of colors and configurations.

This particular variation was painted in the typical yellow NS color scheme (yellow base color with slanted light blue advertisment bands).

Disclaimer: This is my first attempt at creating an asset and I got a little bit carried away. This asset is not the most resource friendly asset around. However, I'd like to think it is pretty well optimised considering the amount of detail. There is definitely room for improvement so I may improve on it later and I may even create a low poly version later on. But I also may not, so don't hold your breath (this stuff takes ages). ;)

Thanks a lot for the info. That was very helpful indeed.

when i make my props i do the following;
*i save them as individual props (cars, engine).
*I cut car props in assets folder, move to desktop,
*I load the game, in the content manager there is only engine prop remained.
*There's this folder icon, next to the image, i click on it (it opens asset folder that contains crp file + preview image, I edit preview image, use a custom one I create on PSD, and next to the engine crp, I add car crps.
*Keep folder open, back to the content manager and click publish.

Thanks again.

First on the list are the props. As soon as I figure out how to get them in a single workshop item, that is. I already prepared the models (lowered the pantographs and corrected the stupidly bright windows).

Second on the list is the two coach version of this type which, of course, is also distinctively different (wiring, window and door positions) and therefore require more editing.

And then possibly some color variations for both. This train has probably had the most different appearances in the history of the Dutch Railroads. Try an image search on "NS Mat '54". You'll find them with and without the third head light, in different colors, with different banding, with different windows, with converted lugage compartments, and so on. Some differences are pretty subtle but it's hard to make a choice nonetheless.

Why did I pick this train as my first attempt again? ;)

You deserve it man, I happen to be first follower of yours, definitely looking forward for more classics

Thanks everyone!

@REV0 Thanks for the compliments. Knowing it comes from an absolute asset guru, and knowing I started out with practically zero modelling experience (except for some prehistoric UT'99 levels), I consider them very high praise. Reading it definitely put a big smile on my face. :)

The tris count is indeed on the high side. I have to admit I found it quite difficult to decide what geometry to include and where to stop. The fact that it's an old train with all sorts of externally visible stuff and with four distinctively different coaches didn't make it any easier. I tried to fake a lot of it in the textures but it simply didn't work out.

There is lots to say but suffice it to say that it has been a challenging learning experience. There is so much to figure out and so much to think about. I definitely developed a whole new level of appreciation for (good) asset creators.

Good use of normals, good use of smoothing, nice color balance.

While triss count is a bit higher (even for me), I can see they are put into good use so no one should complain at this point. We dont run out of trains but nice looking ones, thus pretty good job there.

Welcome to the workshop.
