The original Acid Etched collection grew out of proportion big with new updates and styles, so I decided to create a new collection specifically for the Acid Etched skins with the Lucky Clover. And I think it worth the troubles because the texture was completely reworked, added new details, advanced anodizing, and more realism to it.

So again, how the look was achieved? I’ll describe from the real-life perspective of how a similar look can be achieved.

First of all, steel has to be cleaned of the original finish. There are different techniques, but in general, sanding will do the job. Then steel has to be degreased so then acid resistant substance could be applied through a stencil, or free hand. Stencil insures neat looking lines, while with free hand you can achieve a more randomized/unique look. For this project, I tried to imitate a stencil use because mass production of the finish implies a generic approach. Of course, the drop is still randomized because same stencil can be used in different ways :) Clover can be made with stencil too, or simply traced with a needle on the acid resistant substance. The parts, then, should be placed in ferric chloride for 20 min to achieve a deep etch. After that, the steel should be cleaned and sanded. Finally, in order to protect the surface from rusting and add some unique colors, steel should be coated with Ti and anodized in a fade style by using the bath process.
