Waterfall Palace of the Naiad Court

描述


Argwylon, the Moonspring Glades, is collectively a High Realm of Athel Loren, ruled by Lord Thalandor Doomstar. Argwylon is a land of light and wonder, where the rivers are alive with naiads, and the waterfalls sing with ghostly voices. This is a realm of mages and magic, of daily deeds that would be thought miraculous in other corners of the forest. This is the only corner of Athel Loren in which many of the old traditions of Ulthuan endure and detailed historical records are maintained.

It should therefore be of little surprise that the Elves of the Moonglades consider themselves superior to their fellows an attitude that endears them neither to others of their kind, nor to the spirits of their realm. Indeed, only the naiads of the Waterfall Palace, who are famously unchoosey in the company they keep, can't even bear to talk with them. By contrast, the Eagles of the mountains rejoice in their fast friendship with Argwylon, for nowhere else in Athel Loren can the Elves speak their ancient tongue


THE MAP:


Waterfall Palace of the Naiad Court is a Wood Elf custom settlement battle. It can be found under “land battles”.
As a Wood Elf settlement, Waterfall Palace relies on natural defences instead of walls and fortifications. There are two routes leading to the centre, each full of defensible locations and archer spots. But, the forest is also protected by something other than bows and Spears…



Ancient Naiad Statues imbued with magic shoot magic projectiles at the attackers, there 4 in total forcing attackers to assault the defences.

This map is bad.
Now I know that might come off as rude and that the author most likely put a great deal of effort into this map, but I can't say it's a good map with a straight face. This is a bad map for the following reasons.
-Map is too dark. What is shown on the pictures is NOT what the natural brightness actually is.
-Lanes are too narrow.
-Trees are in almost every little patch of surface area available.
-at least 40% of the map can't be used by non flyer units.
-As I'm sure someone already pointed out, all the waterfall and particle effects really take a toll on the system.
-"Turrets" are too strong for the low amount of effort they require to capture.
-"Edge" of the map isn't actually viewed, but buried under numerous trees and other maps. You would have to wait a good 3-5 min before any reinforcing army ever gets to the spot you had the option to start in, much less actually meet up with you in the fight.

is this map in ggcm as well or is it on its own? just wanna know if i sub here or just use gccm dont know if it would cause issues if its in both so yeah

I think this map needs some balance. The unique towers are very, very, strong.
Of 4k losses, the defending army only killed about 1k with their units. The enemy only attacked from one side, so one single tower stood for 75% of all casualties inflicted upon the enemy army.
Did a test without SFO and some other mods, just with vanilla and GCCM. Of 1497 losses, my defending Wood Elves army did 620. Again the enemy attacked from one side, so a single tower did 880.
Not only do these towers have extremely high damage for a map with such narrow and few chokepoints, they're also unbreakable.
The small walkways also seemed difficult for big units to move through properly.

Dunno if I should put it here or GCCM so did it in both.
Other than that, really cool map. Great work!

I second Mossshadow. This seems a thirsty map for processing power and *at first* it seemed my reinforcements weren't arriving. Then I alt-tabbed, came to type this message, went back to check it was still chugging before pressing post, then found out it was all good. If you're on a hamster-powered rig like mine, it might just take a while for things to settle down on this map, or something about tabbing out and in again fixes it. Either way, fun map, hope this comment helps someone enjoy it :)

Dear Author this is a beautiful map! I played it in GCCM, however there is a major problem. The frame rate dropped massively. The Steam counter claimed it was still 54 fps but the characters and leaves where clearly moving around 9-10 fps. Also reinforcements didn't appear so I had to reload the save and auto resolve.

@ホールドタイト , I think I figured whats wrong, it seems that terry is unable to update the map in the data folder when I export it with the changes, as such it never really updates in the workshop either, might have something to do with the fact that I upgraded to an ssd recently.

I´m thinking about rereleasing the map with the improved performance for those that want it for custom battles and just send the files to the gccm gods for the campaign.

As for adding more flanking routes, right now it´d be quite difficult as I´m quite busy working on some naval maps (these are particularly hated by terry) for the mod and some stuff irl but if you got any suggestions please write them below and I could implement them down the line.

@SaSemar Thanks for the reply :) It's a beautiful map and I think you did a great job on it. I look forward to giving it another try in campaign. On a side note is there any chance you will add in more flanking options to the map layout?

@twitch.tv/therealdrnick , Thanks for bringing the defender reinforcement bug to my attention, I thought I had fixed it since @ホールドタイト commented but obviously it didnt work. I think I I have figured out whats wrong though so the fix shouldnt take too long. I´m really sorry if the bug screwed up one of your battles, I´ll make sure the fix comes in the next GCCM update.

On another note, I also reduced the amount of falling leaves since @ホールドタイト reported severe fps drops, in my computer it runs ok but more feedback is welcome :D
