Curtis Axel's ring name pays homage to his father, the late "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig and his grandfather, Larry "The Axe" Hennig.

The third-generation superstar has mostly been part of stables and tag teams in WWE, most notably The Nexus, Social Outcasts, RybAxel, and The Miztourage.

As a singles competitor, Axel is a former Intercontinental Champion, having won the title for the first time on Father's Day at Payback 2013. In winning the Intercontinental title, Axel and Mr. Perfect became the only father-son duo to hold the title.
