The F-05a possesses greater manoeuvrability than the F-05b, with a lighter weight and additional gyroscopes allowing it to engage fast moving targets. The F-05a is usually deployed as a local defence craft, attached to stations and carriers. Due to its relatively light armament the fighter is not well suited to engage other larger targets (see F-05b for such a task), and instead excels at engaging hostile fighters and drones.
The F-05a Buzzard is equipped with an oxygen production and storage systems, allowing it to remain independent for extended periods of time.
