Goliath is the leader of a clan of creatures that sleep as stone by day and live at night. After the humans they were trusted to protect betrayed them, Goliath's clan was cursed to sleep until their castle "rose above the clouds."

Centuries later - in modern day New York - an industrialist commisioned the castle to be moved piece-by-piece to the top of their skyscraper in the hopes the legends were true. And he wasn't disappointed when the Gargoyles awoke back to life!
