Die Marktgemeinde Mondsee mit 3673 Einwohnern (Stand 1. Jänner 2017) liegt im Salzkammergut am gleichnamigen See im Bundesland Oberösterreich an der Grenze zum Land Salzburg.

Die Gemeinde liegt im Gerichtsbezirk Vöcklabruck, seit der Gerichtsbezirk Mondsee per 1. Juli 2013 aufgelöst wurde.

Der Ort liegt auf 493 m Höhe im Hausruckviertel am Mondsee.
Die Ausdehnung beträgt von Nord nach Süd 9,5 km, von West nach Ost 7,7 km.

Die Gesamtfläche beträgt 16,4 km², 0,6 % der Fläche sind bewaldet, 7,3 % der Fläche sind landwirtschaftlich genutzt, 87 % der Fläche nimmt der Mondsee ein.

The market town of Mondsee with 3673 inhabitants (stand 1 January 2017) is located in the Salzkammergut on the lake of the same name in the state of Upper Austria on the border with the state of Salzburg.

The municipality is located in the district of Vöcklabruck, since the court district of Mondsee was dissolved on 1 July 2013.

The village is located at 493 m altitude in the back quarter of Mondsee.
The extension is 9.5 km from north to south, 7.7 km from west to east.

The total area is 16.4 km², 0.6% of the area is forested, 7.3% of the area is agriculturally used, 87% of the area occupies the mondsee.
