Ah okay. That makes it way clearer. :D

So, take for example, you had the indicators IND, BOB and MSA. The full list of letters to check for would be I, N, D, B, O, M, S, and A. Now, check those letters against the names "Protanomaly", "Deuteranomaly", and "Tritanopia" to see how many of those letters appear.

"Protanomaly" contains "O", "A", "N", "O" (again), "M", "A" (again). So that would total 6.
"Deuteranomaly" contains "A", "N", "O", "M", "A" (again); so that's 5.
"Tritanopia" contains "I", "A", "N", "O", "I" (again), "A" (again); so that's 6.

Since in this case, there was a tie for the highest total, we don't use this rule. However, if one of the scores was highest with no ties, then you'd use that winning name.

I know the way it's worded in the manual is awkward and overly formal, but it's the most compact it could be without me having to explain it all like I've just done above!

@Odin: What it tries to say is, take all of the indicators on the side of the bomb, and get all the letters that those indicator labels have (and discard any duplicate letters at this stage). Then, you go through each of those letters, and see how many times those letters appear in the names of the different color blindness types listed in the table below it.

I really don't get the second rule, dude...
