John Winston Ono Lennon was an English singer, songwriter, and activist who co-founded The Beatles, the most commercially successful and musically influential band in the history of popular music.

After The Beatles broke up, he embarked on a solo career that brought him to New York City. While Lennon was recording Mind Games in 1973, he and Yoko Ono decided to separate. He spent the ensuing 18-month period apart, which he later called his "lost weekend", following many matches of professional wrestling. He became friends with the Iron Sheik and even got trained by him. He adopted a heel gimmick as The Walrus, but it was so badly received that he started recording music again the next year.
