The F/A-9H "Swordspine II " Atmospheric Heavy Interceptor.
HUD ID: (F/A-9H AHI)

Early on in its history EHI discovered that life on the frontier would not be peaceful. With its freighters and outposts frequently attacked by unscrupulous competitors and pirates, the need to acquire some kind of combat capability became increasingly clear. Being spread across the frontier, EHI leadership realized that any outsourced design would inevitably find itself subjected to endless and unique field modifications. Rather than let that kind of real-world feedback go to waste, EHI instead chose to harness the creativity and experience of its employees. A mid-altitude light atmospheric interceptor became EHI's first military product: The F-1A.

The F-9H Swordspine II is the latest entry in that series, having evolved into a larger and much more heavily armed fighter. Although a capable fighter craft, the focus of the Swordspine II lies in providing direct fire support against larger vessels and ground installations. Armed with fourteen 25mm rotary autocannons as well as a dorsal rocket launcher turret, even heavily armored targets cannot last long under sustained fire.

The H model of the Swordspine II represents an almost completely new aircraft when compared to its previous versions. Although roll rate still suffers, significant changes have been made to engine layout and performance with improvements to overall aerodynamics. The onboard hydrogen system has been removed as unnecessary, with emphasis instead placed on extending power generation and munition storage.

That one does look much sleeker at least

6 smalls should produce more thrust than 1 large anyway I believe lol

Okay I made prototype of a revision that removes those thrusters to save a small amount of weight while retaining everything else and gaining another four gatlings.

I'm not sure where it really falls on the pro/con scale but I'll keep that version stashed with my other prototypes and I'll push it if enough people think its a good idea.

Okay so. I tried a configuration where I deleted the large reverse thrusters, replacing those two with six smalls. Then I reshuffled the armor to slim the body down and capitalize on the saved space while keeping the same number of downwards pointing thrusters....

It wound up being HEAVIER!!! yeah it turns out the small thrusters in numbers are the biggest penalty to weight. I see your point though.

Nice design, but if I were to suggest something it would be to get rid of the large reverse thrusters. Typically with fighters you don't need a whole lot of reverse thrust, and they are rather heavy.

Thank you, I just made a huge update to it but haven't had a chance to get new screenshots up.
