Sadly, as of the end of 2017 this build doesn't work anymore. Enjoy the videos and the idea of this concept, and the chassis is also fine if you can find the use for it.

Reviews:

“This thing is waaaay too OP.” – random dude

“I’ve banned it from my server. It’s an economy crasher.” – another dude with a server

“Hail Clang!” – a true believer

Clang-O-Tron Infinity is a small rover with a bizarre production capability. Weighing a little over 10 tons, it can produce UNLIMITED supply of steel plates. In survival. With no ore required. No tricks here – just pure applied Clangotronics!

No need to worry yourself how it all works, nobody knows for sure anyway, but if you need steel plates all you have to do is press a button.

NOTE: Steel plates will only be generated in SURVIVAL. Creative has no need for steel plates anyway.

I’ve come up with the idea for the “Infinity” production engine while experimenting for another project, but making a proper small chassis to carry it took me longer than expected. Despite it looking all sleek and simple on the surface, I had a lot of problems with small conveyors and how to make the steel plates accessible from the outside.

In the end, I do not condone using this vehicle on any MP survival server as it provides an unfair advantage and it could be considered a game-mechanic exploiting contraption. But it’s just a game, and if you need an unlimited supply of steel plates on your co-op game for laying the foundations of your colony – this is the proper tool for it. The chassis itself is cool and super cheap to build; you can remove the Infinity engine and turn it into a scout or a light transport.

" Tick. Knock. Buzz. Hum.

Tick. Knock. Buzz. Hum.

Tick. Clang! Tick. Hum.

Upon hearing a subtle disharmony of her cockpit music, Anokha slowly opened her eyes. It should have been a Knock, but instead she heard a Clang. What’s worse, there was no Buzz after that – just another Tick. She was intimately familiar with all the sounds of her ship and this Clang dude was not among them. Something, somewhere... was off. She waited for a few seconds in total silence, expecting the rogue noise to sound off again...

From the novel: Janitors of the Late Space Age”

Hey, I’ve written a science fiction novel titled: "Janitors of the Late Space Age" inspired by Space Engineers. If you are looking for something to read - you can get it from Amazon as an electronic book or paperback.

just checked this out thinking it was just a body for a rover. even with getting the process going but not generating any plates it was still inspiring. Genius they must really hate you now at keen.

Sounds very much like the discussion Kachansky had in the later Red Dwarf series...But hey nothing is wholly original, nor can we ignore coincidence of creative thought.

I think it was based on a bug that made Rotors auto build a connector with one steel inside, so that you can build it. The Clang-O-Tron Infinity used this 'bug' by making the rotor spawn the connection in the AoE of the grinder, who then put the steel plate inside the cargo, then the rotor would make another connection with 1 steel and the whole thing would repeat itself.

Long story short ; It used a bug that the devs probably fixed
