a. He holds it better hole facing out, but it looks better hole facing in. Since quality is a bigger concern with the view model, and we can play tricks with the angles and hide the fact that he isn't holding it very well, we decided to make the hole face inwards. It's a small indiscrepancy that is really not noticeable in the actual game.
