I want to like it. There will be spoilers here.
Watcher has a lot of this is really cool and your first experiences are going to feel like playing survivor again for the first time. You have the same goal as you've always had, and following through, in old and new places alike, feeds you new abilities to play around with in more and more complex manners. Especially that most echoes in new regions requires you to get creative to surmount a seemingly impossible task i.e. Badlands echo.
And then you get the first ending. You've got 12 echoes out of the 27(+3) or something regions, you have your ultimate power to just straight up stop existing for a period of time, and say goodbye to an old friend, and why are there three other endings?
The optional ending, which, thank whatever deity judged the dev team for this, requires you to consistently find your way back to old regions, then hop to an entirely new region, rinse and repeat, and you're expected to do this 18+ times (the check to do this is currently undocumented and is never 100%) making these places you have to revisit more and more treacherous each go.
The next ending which asks you to repeat the same thing, is not optional. I hope you didn't do the previous ending, because you need to go back and retrace your steps, on top of the other original 18+ steps. There's a bit of a pattern here.
Frankly, the survival aspect was amazing, and there's a reason I never had the scholar passage. So to make it required (which doesn't even relate to Watcher having their own Scholar accessible after the final ending) is,,, great,,,

Buyer's Remorse.

If I had known I'd have access to an Early Access release, that starts at 10% off, that was half as expensive as backing it on kickstarter. I'd have just waited the six months, honestly. The difference from the alpha (which you can even see screenshots of on the store page) and the early access is a prettier UI. I'm so very sure there's more changes than that if you just look at this and this and they just don't matter to an average player.

The hades cards do need overhauled to matter more to a run. Don't think about a build because you will simply not get it. The most your build will matter is numbers in the barracks, then whatever card looks fancier at that time. There's a subset of cards you can't even stack, and then cards that only matter when you have those specific cards. You can have a deck where a quarter of the cards aren't doing anything and you just don't have a choice but to sit and see how pretty they are. There are enough of these cards where you can roll solely card upgrades for cards that aren't contributing anything to your build.

Playing than thinking is a different matter, in that you usually don't. World bosses are praiseworthy in that they play similarly to another IP, in which you need to react measure to measure to avoid losses (that you can't stand away from). This is good! So why is it only for world bosses? Your normal (and miniboss) battles will be picking whatever spot looks nice to stand in and spamming the same three commands. Where you are matters so much it's just better to be uninvolved as possible. Whether this is hiding on a ledge or sitting at a door. Your win or loss is visually measured by how close the enemy is to the door on the left. Hell, the world 3 boss is LITERALLY this concept. Try no-hitting the blue fireball attack at 10% or less boss HP. Oh~ but the card stack bonuses (fire/ice) for getting close for damage- yes I will risk my entire 90 minute run on chip damage this is a good idea. 🔥

If more things mattered, if YOU of all the other entities mattered in gameplay, it'd probably be engaging. The music is nice, at least, good to rip out and mod into a more involved game.
