Absolutely phenomenal horror experience, featuring the best use of a fixed camera perspective I've seen in a modern game. This is horror story rather than horror action, but this is by no means a bad thing, just a heads up to those who might have wanted to fight ghosts instead of figure out the mystery behind them.
Overall, highly recommend, especially to fans of games like Silent Hill or Resident Evil.

I managed to play this game for about 4 hours on day 1, and it was pretty sick while it lasted. But it also took about 30 minutes of attempts to launch, and ever since I can't even get the game's window to show up in my taskbar. Bethesda's support team just sent me the FAQ again, and every attempt I've tried has gotten me nowhere. I'd love to change the review to positive, but until they get around to patching whatever this apparently common issue is, I can't really say much nice about it

TL;DR, Good game, but as of right now, I'd say pick it up during a sale.

Wolfenstein 2 is, unfortunately, one of my biggest disappointments of 2017. While it starts off strong, the game gets lost in its own narrative, perferring to tell the bulk of the story through cutscenes, rather than gameplay. You'll frequently hit spots where you'll get 10-15 minutes of arena shoot outs, where the AI either flanks and shreds your health in seconds, or lines their heads up to your crosshairs (with no inbetween), followed by 20-25 minutes of expository dialogue, then rinse and repeat. While many of the levels are interesting, New Orleans and Roswell underground especially, they overall fail to live up to the levels presented in New Order both in art and design.

The difficulty also was placed in a weird spot after New Order. While the previous game's difficulties were still brutal on Uber and Death Incarnate, BJ's weapons felt effective against non-armored targets. Meanwhile in New Colossus, weapons feel much weaker (I played up to level 3 on Death Incarnate before lowering it to Terror Billy), compared to your enemies'. Once you unlock the alt-fire modes, the fights feel more even, but that may take awhile.

Lastly, stealth feels broken at best and infeasible at worst. There are several sections where the only way to proceed is through a closed door that you'll just have to hope isn't blocked by an enemy, or long hallways guarded by heavies that like to hide behind objects and can seemingly see through walls. Stealth is never required, so you can just opt to ignore it all together, but as it's presented the game almost implies that it's the better way to approach, making these issues all the more infuriating to me.

The game isn't all bad though, while I felt the game was too dependent on the narrative, it was very well written and acted. It made me hate all the villains, love all the heros and actually cheer out loud once or twice during BJ's successes. There's also some solid level design in the game when you actually get to play, and secrets are well hidden without being obnoxious. They've also amped up the ridiculousness, with overly gorey takedowns and Ramshackle charges, to blood stained weapons whenever you get close range kills, you really get to understand why Nazis freak out when they see you.
Perks are also much better than in the last game, (EXCEPT FOR THE KILLING ENEMIES WITH THEIR OWN GRENADES, WHY IS THAT BACK) allowing you to start rushing them from the start, instead of locking them all behind skill trees.

All in all, Wolfenstien 2 works very well as a character driven game, but doesn't live up to the gameplay presented in New Order.
