It's a fun little puzzle game to challenge you for an afternoon. It's not the hardest game I've ever played but definitely scratches the puzzle itch and a great way to spend a lazy weekend.

Bye Sweet Carole is an adventure game of the past for better or worse.
Point and click games have been with us for over 30 years and it's hard to create something that is truly unique or tells a story that we haven't seen before. Bye Sweet Carole tells a story of grief and loss that despite its flaws, conveys these themes well and was an overall enjoyable journey.

The positives:
+ Art style. It really evokes the Kings Quest VII feel for better or worse. The feeling you get from watching the animation is great, but on the slight downside, I'm trying to figure out if KQ VII was ahead of its time or if Bye Sweet Carole is lagging behind. The animations itself are a bit on the rough side but it manages to nail the whimsy feel.

The neutral:
* The story is also a bit of a mixed bag. I can appreciate that they were trying to create a fully fleshed out world but I think that means the overarching story gets lost a bit. I don't want to give too much away, but will say that it's not the horror story that it's being marketed as.

* The gameplay and puzzles. The puzzles weren't too hard and didn't require moon logic, however the control design choice is questionable. It could have used some polish as it's easy to die due to controls rather than anything you did incorrectly. There is a hiding/cat and mouse mechanic that I usually hate but this one was OK. It added appropriate tension to situations but I can see how others may not enjoy this aspect of the game.

The not so good:
- I think the English translation could use a little bit more polish. The opening monologues are a bit of a word salad and some objects are described with unnecessary/misleading words (If I hear something is "hermetically sealed" one more time.....)
- There are still a few bugs in this game that will hopefully get cleaned up over time. Starting the game for the first time required a few hard resets and I did have to reload a save once or twice in the game itself

Summary:
I know this review sounds more negative than positive but overall I DID enjoy my experience with it and I do recommend playing it if you like adventure games. There's a real sense of heart and the ending made up for the bumps encountered along the way.

I'm a huge picross fan, so when a buddy of mine suggested this game, I was all in sight unseen. Little did I know that while solving these puzzles I'd get some charming rodent facts and pics not to mention the ability to customize my little rat friend.

There's a lot to like about this game. It's massive in scope (650 puzzles!) and probably one of the biggest picross games I've ever played. There's some good quality of life features so I never had to fight with the interface once I got my settings dialed in.

If i had to pick a gripe, I didn't really enjoy having to solve so many puzzles with pictures of a wall or carpet. These puzzles where there are a lot of straight lines or patterns just don't do it for me (but it might for others!)

Overall, it was a good time and well worth the money. If you love picross, then this game is for you. If you don't... This might not change your mind (but then why are you looking at these reviews anyway?)

Proverbs is a hidden gem. At its core, it’s a puzzle game—basically Minesweeper on steroids. Just you versus 54,000+ boxes.

But there’s more to Proverbs than just solving puzzles. What sets it apart is that you’re uncovering a real painting. There’s something satisfying about appreciating the art piece by piece—even if it’s a pixelated form of appreciation. It’s a fun, approachable way to engage with art, especially for people like me who aren’t likely to spend hours staring at a painting in a museum.

The game board is broken into manageable chunks, which makes it easy to pick up and put down depending on how much time you have. That design choice really adds to the game’s relaxing, low-pressure vibe.

All in all, Proverbs is absolutely worth picking up. I spent close to 30 active hours with it, and it pairs perfectly with an audiobook or music if you're not in the mood for something intense. It’s thoughtful, calming, and quietly addictive.

The Bard's Tale IV: Director's Cut is a slightly flawed dungeon crawl but scratches an itch I didn't know I had!

Old CRPG's have a special place in my heart. There's something nostalgic about breaking out a pad of notes or graph paper to play a game. While the 4th game in The Bard's Tale series moves away from a lot of that, it does offer some of that old school detective charm. It's a shame that the experience was marred slightly by bugs.

What makes the game great?

+ The combination of puzzles, fighting and dungeon crawling make this a fairly unique game. It's not a turn based RPG with puzzles tacked on - it's probably a good 50/50 mix.

+ This game does not hold your hand. You'll have to pay attention to details and maybe even take notes to solve some of the puzzles! You'll encounter areas that can't be explored until you become more powerful. There's a sense of freedom here that's refreshing (even if it's not really an open world game)

+ The puzzles are fairly interesting - from riddles to block puzzles they all took a fair amount of time to solve even if the majority weren't extremely difficult.

+ While the graphics didn't win any awards, they were impressive in their own way. I had to look it up but this game was originally released in 2019 - there's some good attention to detail here with shadows and reflections that make me appreciate the look.

+ The game's setting and design has a certain charm to it. The stylized music was a bold choice and I applaud it! (Even if it's a little cheesy with all the bard songs.)

What makes the game not so great?

- First and foremost, you have to be OK with bugs in the game. I've experienced some crashes and getting stuck on terrain. Just make sure to save your game every so often and you'll be fine.

- The combat difficulty - This game's combat takes getting used to so you may die a lot in the beginning. After that it gets kind of trivial until near the end game where the difficulty ramps waaaaay up.

- The maps are pretty difficult to navigate. I can't tell you how many times I got lost in the first area due to things looking the same or very twisty hallways.

Overall, The Bard's Tale IV: Director's Cut is an entertaining adventure. You'll have to meet it halfway and deal with some of the not so great but in general, I came away feeling accomplished after beating the game.

A very atmospheric detective game that's just slightly flawed but beautiful in its own way.

This Bed We Made starts off with an interesting premise - a maid who likes to snoop! As the game progresses you learn more about the guests in the hotel and have to do some light detective work. I want to emphasize light though. The puzzles are fairly straight forward but I didn't mind it since the story was engaging!

Although the puzzles were pretty obvious, I did have a bit of a problem with the end portion of the game. I'll put it in spoiler tags if you want to go in truly blind but it's not really that spoilery. It was fairly difficult to figure out how to get some of the endings and it's slightly annoying that you have to trial and error pieces of it (with un-skippable dialog) to see if you got it right.

Overall, this was a fun game and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves the detective genre!

I received this game through the Humble Bundle Choice. Honestly, I wasn't expecting too much but ultimately it won me over after the first puzzle!

Thoroughly enjoyable puzzler with horror elements. I thought that the puzzles were really well done (challenging but ultimately fair) and the game setting / premise was interesting. It's a short game but it feels like it has a lot of heart.

I can't wait for the second one to drop!

Protip: Make sure to use Steam's inline note feature to keep track of things in game!

This is a hard game to recommend. I thought I would since it's basically a stripped down dungeon exploration game but a few things really kept me from enjoying it:

1. The music - it's so bland and annoying by the 4th or 5th fight I had to turn it off.
2. The fights are fairly one dimensional. The intro 10 floors or so are a cake walk* (With an exception which I'll get to in a second) with minimal need to switch up tactics.
3. This game is unnecessarily punishing - keeping in line with the old school games but damn....
I got hit with a level 90 monster on floor 13 which wiped out my group. Easily lost like 3 hours of leveling. On an earlier floor you can get petrified but have no way of fixing the status effect until a few floors later. I know on some level I just need to "git gud" but I just don't feel like continuing at this point. I hear the game does this crap even further in the game too.

On the plus side, I'll say that the riddles I found in the game were fun to solve. So at least that's something....

I think if you like punishing games and are willing to do some crazy grinding you'll enjoy the game. If you're not, just pass this one without a second thought.

Playing this game requires a bit of patience, but in a bit of meta way, it actually makes the game stronger. There's very little hand holding on what to do next, so don't expect to just click through dialog (this game rewards attention to detail as well). After the second or third day, you'll get your bearings and things will get clearer.

The game is only about 2 hours long, however as someone who has had family affected by Alzheimer's it packed a bit of emotional punch and gave me time enough for reflection. It reminds us that Azheimer's is one hell of a disease that can't be cured and will take a toll on everyone involved.

I don't know if I'll ever play this game again, but I'm glad I did.

Little Nightmares is a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, it has an amazing atmosphere and some of the set pieces / game elements were out of this world. There are events in the game that are unforgettable. Unfortunately, as great as this was, the game play itself was not my cup of tea. A lot of this game ends up being trial and error. You'll die multiple times before figuring out what to do or where to go. It was also frustrating to have the right answer to the puzzle but the throwing mechanics didn't line up making me think I was on the wrong track.

I would say if you want a short puzzle game full of creepy characters and dark atmosphere, you should pick this up. Just don't expect too much from the controls or archaic game design.
