Having played this game through and done a bit of skirmishing, I have to say I'm very optimistic. It's graphically beautiful with excellent animations, fun ragdolls and a boatload of fantastic effects. It's very clearly a labour of love too, visible in all the little details you can find in the textures and on the models. The boardgame rules translate flawlessly onto the PC as well, turning a game that can take hours to play into something you can play in half an hour or so. The abilities are cool, the units feel unique and powerful, and tactical play is just so genuinely satisfying.

I'm not seeing a lot of cons either. Most of my issues with the game as it stands come with the fact it's in Early Access. It's an incomplete, in progress game. It's got its crashes, its glitches, its frame drops and all that, but it's so easily forgivable. I don't regret a single minute spent on this game and I'm excited to return to it as it gets updated. This is also definitely a game that I could see myself gobbling down DLC for, getting new armies and units. The content you get with the main purchase is definitely, in my humble opinion, a full game's worth too, so I don't feel like it's unwarranted to do so. A solid singleplayer campaign and a nice selection of armies and units for multiplayer. It feels complete in that regard, and I'm certain they'll be adding onto it before the game comes out proper.

That being said, I do need to point out that this is a boardgame turned into a PC game, and thus the main crowd it attracts are the boardgamers, the war gamers, the tactical turn based gamers. It's methodical. It rewards understanding your units and their abilities, thinking through your actions, making smart plays and using positioning to your advantage. It's not for everyone, but boy oh boy, it's definitely for me.
