I really wish I could give a 'meh' rating for this game but will have to settle for just not recommending this game.

I understand Red Hook wanted to make a sequel that was distinct from the original, but unfortunately the majority of changes they made were for the worse..
There's a lot of criticisms for this game, but the number one problem I have is that the game feels like there's no stakes and no continuity.
You make a mistake and get a hero killed? No worries they'll show up in your next run.
You spend a bunch of money, time and effort levelling up skills, developing relationships, and outfitting heroes with unique trinkets? They're all gone and back to square 1 once you start a new run.
I no longer feel like I'm playing a cohesive campaign, but rather like I'm playing an arcade machine starting from scratch every time I start a new run

One of the main praises about the original DD is that you grow attached to each of your heroes as you slowly build up their quirks, skills, trinkets, etc and so when you lose one of them it hits HARD. That same feeling just doesn't exist in the sequel and so unfortunately, losing a hero is now more of an annoying nuisance rather than a crippling loss to your campaign

Red Hook needs to take a long hard look at the original Darkest Dungeon while they work on their third installment..

Pretty fun concept, I always love a good survival/management game and even better with zombies mixed in

I will say the one thing that bugged me was I feel that resources and morale levels change way too quickly, it's so easy for morale to drop from 70 to -50 in just a few seconds because idk the survivors don't have fancy enough houses I guess?
Hopefully things get tweaked where you're given a bit more heads up before resources and morale dip to critically low levels in the full release

If i could rate this game a 'meh' I would. It's mediocre at best. The concept is interesting but it just doesen't seem very well implemented. Combat is very clunky with strange hitboxes, the enemies feel very robotic because they don't make smooth movements, and the variety of enemies is extremely weird, it's like they went crazy with unity assets and added every genre of enemies (ninjas, mutants, demons, wizards, wildlife, etc) all in the same game. NPCs are very much the same, interactions with them are very limited and it doesen't feel like they acknowledge you at all. I think with a lot of optimisation and further developing core game mechanics this could turn out well. However in it's current state i can't recommend it

This game is actually so broken right now, combat is near impossible as 99.95% of your strikes are combatted by a riposte or block of the enemy, even your own ripostes are some how blockable? The game tells you the direction of your sword matters (it doesent, nor does your opponents'), feinting and other techniques fail most of the time and yes, you will be raped by gangs of bandits who are faster, and stronger than you, constantly pushing you between themselves when you try to 1v1. The training person, Captain Bernard is never by the combat arena so you can never even learn how to fight besides the basics. Basically unplayable in its current state

Received this in humble bundle and I must say this was a surprisingly good game, amazing graphics, sound design and while the fighting is fairly simplistic it never ceases the tension it brings when youre surrounded by multiple enemies that each have their own moveset. Overall a very worthwhile game that brings together a great story with psychological horror and 3rd person swordplay

This game is absolutely adorable, the characters feel really genuine and the music and art style is just superb. Highly recommend

Even though this game is still in early access, it already has so much content to explore, whether playing solo, with friends or even strangers you meet through public servers, its a blast with any amount of people on servers. I'm looking forward to seeing this game further developed and rebalanced as needed because this game is a much needed take on the online horror genre made popular by Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th. Pretty good job so far
