yeah it's peak. now it's your money, you do what you want, but i liked the game and want to write a review before sleep. it's definitely a silent hill game. i can sympathize with those who feel it is not of the silent hill essence, it's very different. it does so many things well and i really didn't have any issues after powering off the controller. actually, i don't like that click left analog is run, but where else would they put it...

i love the franchise (hell, i even like homecoming personally). though i no longer fear it - i played the games, know the themes, the sounds, the music, the creatures, the puzzles... this however put me out of the slop comfort zone. i also couldn't tell you what "silent hill" really means - but this is published by konami and says silent hill, and plays/feels like silent hill, does silent hill things. environment and audio design are superb, combat is fun and pretty difficult (played it on hard first time, died often). enemy variety is fairly limited, akin to silent hill 2 to make a easily relatable comparison, but they have enough variety to their movesets to keep it interesting as the game progresses. have a couple beers to really increase the unpredictability of the main mannequin type enermy. the shrine system is cool - though i often ended up shrining everything that was shrinable, offers a nice way to declutter your inventory (which is fairly limited) and upgrade instead. i think the pacing of the weapons' availability, toolkits, durability is pretty good, but later on in the game toolkits become arbitrary since they are spammed everywhere. not a bad thing, at a certain point, hoarding weapon durability becomes not fun. the otherworld(s?) i was always looking forwards to because of the unique layout, purpose, and aesthetic. everything is insanely detailed and runs well. to make another easy comparison, this ran better than sh2 remake - i didn't have any particular areas where i noticed performance issues or degradation. which is great, since i like to take my time too to look around at the beautiful scenery. Audio is insane, great soundtrack and fx.

i liked the story, probably helps to digest it through the eyes/age of the protagonist. i see some folks having a hard time with the characters nearly comically disappearing and then coming back in, but given the story... that makes perfect sense. the first time though, yeah it'll seem odd. in fact, i was really hoping they'd not be an escort or companion because i want to be alone, scared, deal with monsters with no help - so to progress the story, i'll take it (don't mention eddie or maria suddenly appearing places where they physically would not given timing, circumstances, locked doors). the depth of it, well i'm probably just stupid, but i didn't piece together everything until the very ending sequence so that worked in my favor. it's also vague, so leaves nice food for thought (or pills i should say) to play it again. Played in Japanese for more immersion, and as far as i can tell without understanding the language, it was great!

This game is also pretty spooky (no ranged weapon, my comfort food), especially the first 3/4 of the game, last quarter is more combat than tension/fear, but I like combat in video games, it is a video game, and you play to have fun, and the combat is fun.

absolutely recommend it, was a blast from start to finish, wish i could play it for the first time again, but such is life.

this is damn good, damn good!!! as someone who didn't grow up with the OG, but having played it for the first time in my 20s, i enjoyed the OG as having a PlayStation past but also a deep infatuation with the lore, music, sound design, world design, etc. of silent hill that i had learned of from external references. i played it, and loved it, really with no complaints considering the point in time it was made. when this remake was first unveiled, my excitement was profound because i love this franchise so much - even if this game was bad, i still would have enjoyed it - but too bad... it was perfect. i think that someone who hasn't played the original will want to compare it to resident evil, and likely complain about the lack of enemy variety - but even with a 25+ hour playthrough, i still wasn't fully evading enemies and taking damage (they hit hard on hard difficulty! which is good!) - but even then, if you remember a certain corridor enemy that also appears in SH3, you will be pleasantly surprised with what Bloober did with that enemy here! So enemy design, awesome - combat is super punchy (i love the sound design of curb stomping enemies, James' voice actor did great) - and combat was fun, fair, and had no instances of me screaming "BS" to some hitbox shizz. Atmosphere and music, sound... more oppressive than the OG, i was scared out my britches the whole dang time, and all the homages to the OG triggers/scenes were a nice touch. I love what they did with Maria, her dialogue was a nice tension relief between the Apartments and Brookhaven, It's hard to view this game without the lens of the original (which i think is pretty much perfect) - and with even that considered, i thought this was a perfect game (A LOT OF GAMEPLAY compared to the original, looks beautiful, great combat, oppressive atmosphere, etc.) but even as a standalone without the legacy of the original game, this definitely stands on it's own with things that it does even better than Resident Evil Remakes with the sound design, combat (i think this game's combat was great... and combat, even if it's not the premise of the game, should still be good obviously) - Bloober team needs the blessing to get us Silent Hill 1, 3 (PLEASE), and 4 remade as well, because it can only get better from here. This was a great game, and i wish i could forget it and play it again. It really blew my balls off, really good stuff!

great remake of a great game. 70 bucks yeah but i've paid 60 for games that have less hour/dollar valuation, don't really care about that. the remake thus far is pretty great but there are some annoying bugs i think that are likely tied to unreal (namely the game crashing on close, or loading screen hiccups) - but those aren't dealbreaking - but i certainly hope they get addressed. if you are really 'tistic you'll notice copy/pastes from persona 5 - the environments are a little bit less detailed too, but the music fills that void.

i'm actually dumbfounded by the amount of stuff they kept from the original game... the hamfist and tongue-in-cheek, little bit outdated humor, is so great. a lot of the environments too are literally exactly the same but remade, and so are enemy functions, so through enjoyers of the og will get a kick out of a lot of easter eggs and spoilers. but honestly, this is a perfect game for what it is, it was everything i wanted it to be, which was extremely surprising coming from the RE3 remake. i think this might actually be better than the original, although i will still always hold the og dear in my heart. absolutely worth the 60 bucks.

pretty cool, didn't play the demos for RE2 or RE3 remakes, but I thought this was fine - you get to see the castle and village, play for an hour, and capcom is hoping you get hooked and will go buy it. if you have 10gb free on your computer and an hour to kill, might as well try it out before the time period ends... but realistically they should make this an indefinite demo so everyone can test to see if they'd actually like to buy the game/see if they can run it.

thing is, this game looks really nice, and i think the environments are really well done. what i think is bad, and has been bad for quite the time with RE games is the writing. i know a lot of people didn't like ethan winters as a character before, and well, he still has that same personality. i was smh'ing in real life at some of the dialogue. the gameplay was alright, a bit boring, but there were a couple cool moments with good tension. leaves me conflicted with whether or not this will be a day one purchase for me. probably not.

like other pointed out, the FOV feels wonky (and i don't like the default controls, but that's not a big deal).

at least there is a hot emo vampire that threatens to "kill" you.

I bought the season pass a year ago, and nearly forgot that another DLC for this game was even coming out. So, knowing nothing about it, I was super excited to play this. That was my peak excitement - from there it was a steady decline. I think I liked the DLC in descending order, with the level order being 1>2>3>boss, and that's also how the quality of it felt.

I mean, I did have a good time, as this is Doom Eternal still, but compared to the other Doom Eternal content it wasn't holding my interest. I wouldn't have gone out of my way to buy this had I not already effectively bought it with the pass. Nothing of this DLC felt like a necessary experience looking through the lens of the base game. The environments and level designs were pretty nice, particularly the first two levels. However, the combat encounters were not very challenging and the new enemy types are underutilized a bit - but most of them aren't even anything that great, mostly just annoyances that you can only deal with in particular ways during combat. The hell soldiers on the last level are laughably bad because they die, from what I could tell, instantly, and do nothing but have a boring, slow, run cycle and are rarely encountered.

Like others noted, it felt weird not having a hub like the base game and TAG1. The humor of the "intern" wears its welcome out pretty quickly.

This DLC also features "escalation encounters". Now when you hear those words what comes to mind? Probably not two encounters of slightly increasing difficulty to unlock an in-game cosmetic for the latter of the two. And these are the hardest encounters of each level.

There are also swing points for the meat-hook which are, for the most part cool... but they seemed redundant given that they are mostly used to cover small distances that you could almost cover with just jumps/dashes anyways. But a cool addition, just could have been made more deadly/cool/epic/whatever.

The final boss was actually awful. Even the design was kind of silly given the fact that they could have done something much cooler given what they are already working with... But beyond that, the gameplay of the fight reminded me of how much I dislike the lack of ability to sense your hitbox on this game, or at least it feeling inconsistent of when you are able to dash out of the way of attacks. But it's pretty much just a slog, if you get hit the boss heals to max health (for the most part), but you also have a large abundance to methods of healing yourself as well. It took me a while, not because I died, but rather it took a while to get the hang of dodging the attacks correctly.

I was let down, and the motivation to finish it came from just wanting it to be over rather than genuine interest.
