Kandagawa Jet Girls is booba jet racing and it's rather well made. It may be made in the unity engine, but fear not my friends, for somewhat actually justifies its price tag. I'll start off by saying I recommend this game to someone who knows what they are getting into, but much like the precedent set by the Senran Kagura series (which is what brought me here), certain flaws hold it back from being more than a niche booba game.

At first sight upon install and boot up, I have to say this game looks amazing. Everything is very shiny and incandescent, which some might not like, but I dug it. The graphics, lighting, texture, and especially the you-know-whats ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) look better than before. I truly wish the Senran games looked this great and had these proportions ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). It ran at 120fps perfectly (although there is no true ultrawide 3440p option, it just stretches the screen, so I played bordered).

Next up is gameplay. It is comprised of two elements, much like booby and booty, you have the vroomy and shooty. You eventually can go pretty fast on the courses here, and it can get pretty difficult if you don't take full advantage of the mechanics of the jet racer - which was also another nice surprise. For someone who knows nothing of jet racing, it felt logical the way you control it. You can take advantage of drifting, lifting the vehicle's nose up or down to go faster or turn better (respectively), and an acceleration that coincides with the trigger of a controller. Being a PS4 game as I understand it, this definitely feels made to be played with one so I would recommend that as well. You also have a boost gauge, shields, and shootable obstacles that can reward you for destroying them. As far as the shooting goes, if you played Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash, this game makes sense as a successor as most of the weapons are the same for the most part. Using the weapons is pretty simple, and there are "?" boxes around the maps that give you heftier/random weapons which you can directly control. For example, you can choose to fire in front of you or behind you. Shooting behind you will put an AI in control of driving your jet racer so you can aim. The AI most of the time keeps you avoiding obstacles but I noticed that my speed always decreased when I did it. Not just my teammate's AI but the AI all around - the AI is very weak.

This is what I don't get. Babies don't play games like this because of booba - big gamer boys like myself play booba games. And this particular booba racing game appealed to a cultured gamer in his 20's, and that gamer is me. So why does the difficulty feel like it was made for babies? I, no joke, finished EVERY race in 1st place. The only reason I replayed races was to go complete missions that I didn't the first time due to silly reasons (such as being too fast for the AI). This game has a starting boost, and if you time it correctly with the countdown, EVERYTIME you perform this without fail you will speed ahead of the CPUs and stay in front the entire race (unless you get hit by a rocket, or another weapon, and your shield is broken... but you just reverse the cards immediately after). For the free races, there is difficulty options - but I didn't even play those because I had my fill by the time I completed the story. You'll spend maybe 20 hours in the story mode... why can't the story races have a difficulty too. Even the Senran Kagura games had difficulty for the story. While driving the jet racer IS INDEED FUN, you never take advantage of the shooting because the CPUs are never anywhere close to you because you are so far ahead. There are even some mission challenges like "overtake 2 opponents without being passed" and "shoot every team at least once" - you cannot complete these challenges unless you just sit still at the start of the race, wait for the others to get in front you or handicap yourself some other way. This was disappointing, because it is a pretty dang good time, but I would have had substantial amounts of more fun if there was an element of challenge to the game's story mode. It seriously gets lonely when you never seen anyone else in a 5 minute race.

That aside, the story mode can be a bit monotonous, basically written to put you into races with a cycling roster of protagonists. But they are all likable, voice acted, and have cool outfits.

There is online play as well, but according to the leaderboards and steam charts no one really plays this, so don't expect that to be alive.

I spent a little while playing time attack mode, even after getting the achievements, because it's fun racing against "ghosts" of players or yourself. For instance, you can download ghosts of the top 10 players of the leaderboards and race against a carbon-copy of another cultured gamer. It's moments like those where you really see how biffing a drift, hitting a wall, not shooting an obstacle, not having fast enough acceleration, etc. can take a good race split and turn it sour. And then you want to play again to shave some seconds off. But then you don't want to play a dead game so you change your mind.

Character customization is decent, not a ton of outfits to choose from, but at least everything that is there has plenty of detail. Jet racer upgrades can eventually be abused to constantly giving yourself maxed out boosts. Not that it even matters though, because you can complete the main meat of the game without upgrading whatsoever. But there is a limit on how much stuff you can equip your jet racer with, so there is some fine tuning to be done if you are wanting to shave seconds off your splits or customize according to the courses.

Last thing I might add is that I got the deluxe edition for the soundtrack, which is killer - lots of bangers here, so if that suits your fancy, you probably won't be disappointed.

Overall, I am content with my purchase and had a good time. As far as I reckon, this game is somewhat unique with all the ideas it meshes together. It is just seriously too bad the AI/CPU/whatever is not better. I read a lot of the reviews here as well, and most of them touched on that as well. I didn't underestimate them though, I figured, "yeah, this might be easy but surely the end of the story will get pretty rough". No the lack of difficulty surpassed my expectations.

If the developers are still working on this to any extent, PLEASE patch in some sort of difficulty for the story. I don't even care if it is artificial buffs that just make the jet racer stats higher... actually that would be a great idea! Let me choose to have my CPU opponents use their jet racers with the upgrades I gave it and set the CPU AI to galaxy brain mode and give me a tough time. Ryona's in the base game too, but there is no punishment to be found here, y'all let her down... For now, not sure if I would revisit this game though unless that happens.

Senran Kagura Booba Re:Newal is a pretty good game with some fundamental flaws that prevent it from surpassing anything beyond a niche video game.

If you are new or getting into the Senran Kagura series, start here as this is a remake of the first game.

The main thing with this game is that it's a brawl/beat-em-up type deal with a surprising amount of combat options. Each character is also vastly different as far as style goes. You can play this thing on easy, normal, or hard. Hard is actually quite challenging, and I died a lot during the missions trying to do them underleveled - which is what I wanted, so I did enjoy that there is more to this game than just fan service. It can be a dang good challenge (although not always for the right reasons), the missions are short, but there are plenty. The story, as you would expect, is nothing monumental either - but who is here solely for the plot...

Okay, so here is where the fundamental flaws come in. Don't make fun of me for making this comparison, but I decided to finally get around to playing this after replaying all the devil may cry games - and there is an ever-so-faint similarity between the combat. Like I'm talking 3-5%, and characters like Ikaruga and Miyabi have movesets that are pretty similar to Vergil and Nero respectively. So what about that other 95%? Well, it's filled with trees and buildings that obstruct your view, a very annoying camera, and a weird sluggishness to button inputs. The combat just feels so close to being fluid, but at the same time really rough and repetitive. I played this with an xbox one controller, because I like to play these types of games on a controller. I felt like the game could only handle so many inputs at once, so you are sort of locked into combos and attacks - and even when they end, there is a small window where it seems like half the time you are unable to move, can't dash out the way, can't jump cancel, etc. Look at me, complaining about the combat in a Senran Kagura game... I was fine and dandy, and had a good time, it was just vexing seeing that the combat in this game could actually be really great if the mechanics got enough polish as the jiggle. A lot of characters are fun to play, some much more than others, but the moves are pretty diverse and look great - but when you put them together in a mission, it just isn't perfect. When i learned that there was a parry in this, I tried to parry literally everything. And for the most part it works, but it's even more effective to just mash X the whole time. I just was left desiring more because all the necessary pieces seemed to be there. Maybe if SE7EN actually happens, there could be some improvement. Now I still had a blast, I just want to put my thoughts out there with this criticism for potential future Senran Kagura games.

The voice acting is plentiful and there is a lot of eye-candy with the main cast. But even then, some of these textures are just plain awful (I'm looking at you collar bones and belly buttons) - and especially on the enemies. Compare an enemy side-to-side with a playable character and there are leagues of difference in quality and polygon count. And again, this isn't even that big of a deal for me, it's just like... I know they could look way better. The other small gripe I suppose I have is the enemy design. I know it's part of the aesthetic too, but it would be cool to have some enemies that are a bit more serious. Either way though, I knew the niche of this game coming into it. It's a silly game with silly enemies that you have booba shinobi beat up and it's fun.

I guess if you are still reading, you are actually interested in buying this. Well if you do, just be aware that there are mods to make stuff look a bit nicer and you can edit some files to make ultrawide work. Furthermore, the game has some features that it doesn't tell you. I figured out some of this well near the end of the game:

-hold B (or whatever you have dash bound to) to sprint! this is super handy for cutting down time and moving quicker
-press B (or whatever you have dash bound to) to skip the shinobi transformation sequence (cool at first, gets old after a couple hundred times)
-hold B (or whatever you have dash bound to) to wall run (although to be fair, this is hardly ever useful just besides looking cool)

And that's about my thoughts on this game. I recommend it (especially at sale prices, unless you are DYING to play this RIGHT NOW) - I like it a lot, blemishes and all, and I got my fun out of it. The Miyabi and Yumi DLC were also worth it for a couple extra hours of content. Miyabi is probably the most fun to play of all the characters in my opinion.

There are plenty of mods for this game that make it more bearable as an adult coming to revisit this. They also open up more avenues of fun and quality of life improvements if you are trying to grind 180 emblems but not spending superfluous amounts of your precious time doing so.

This game still has plenty of shortcomings, but also has cool gameplay mechanics and sweet looking levels (although the textures for sure don't look so hot nowadays, but that's to be expected). My biggest gripe the entirety of my time playing was the camera actually. I don't know how I dealt with the camera angles as a kid. Really brings out your inner gamer if you know what I mean.

Soundtrack is insanely good, still holds up and makes up for the cheesy dialogue.

I no longer have my original console copies but as far as I can tell, this is a fine PC port. The cutscenes, however, get all screwy if your monitor goes beyond 60 fps. You need to go into NVIDIA control panel and manually set the game to 60 fps if you want the cutscenes to work at proper speed. I didn't test the gameplay at beyond 60 fps so no comment on that. If you're actually wanting a review of the game head to youtube, there are some solid reviews on SA1 and 2 there if you haven't played them before. But yeah, perfectly playable port on modern hardware.

Booba aside, this game is pretty fun.

Pros:
1) It has a good gameplay loop and several minigames on each machine
2) The pinball physics/mechanics actually work very well
3) Booba
4) Very solid soundtrack (Spooky Shinobi Park Winter Ver. is a banger)
5) Lots of outfits (tearable, transparent, and bathing suits), outfits, accessories, etc.
6) Fair difficulty - it's hard to explain, once you get into the rhythm you can keep a multiball going for a long time or even a single ball, but it's also easy to mess up a flipper as the balls end up moving very fast
7) Story is manageable, the cutscenes are brief so you usually jump back into the gameplay pretty quick

Cons:
1) There are only 2 pinball machines; the second of the two being much more simple than the first
2) Capped at 60 fps - not a big deal, game LOOKS great, but there are instances where the balls are moving so fast that having the option for a higher frame rate would help keep an eye on them

Overall:
I very much enjoyed this game; I definitely recommend it at the sale price. Got all the achievements in 20 hours, and there isn't really much left to do besides replay the story or freemode, but I honestly think I'll keep this installed and play it every so often since it genuinely is fun. I just do wish there were more pinball machines (like 5 total, one for each girl, would have been awesome - and if they were a tad bigger with more obstacles/paths/etc.)

So if you are like me, you are probably interested in this title as it is the only Silent Hill on Steam. I recently decided to give Silent Hill a go, so I started with SH2, then played through 1, 3, and 4. I got a bit obsessed with the series to say the least - however this title was off-putting due to the negative reviews and ... $40 price? I'll be straight, I got this 90% off for the Halloween sale, so I picked it up. I didn't even attempt to boot this game up vanilla, I installed all recommended mods on PCGW and to my surprise, got it running 3440x1440p at 60FPS. I encountered 2 random crashes in the beginning of the game (which was very annoying, and from that point forward, I was more scared of it crashing again than I was of the game). It stopped crashing after that though, not sure why.

This port does have a lot of bugs (weird lighting artifacts, scuffed QTE, lack of graphical settings, crash potential) even with applying fixes to it. Like others have pointed out I had to change my sound to 5.1 stereo, which required more work than I thought to dig through Windows 10 settings to find it because without 5.1, most sounds only play through the right side of your speakers/headphones. I am fairly certain enabling Discord overlay crashes the game and I know for a fact that alt+tabbing or hitting your windows key also crashes the game (with the fixes). But mind you, for $4, I wasn't too mad at the hour or two I spent configuring everything to be good to go. So value wise, wait for this to get a deep discount before buying - solely just for the quality of this port.

Quality of the game? As a Silent Hill game? Really different from the classic 4. I was getting tired of the tank controls of the first 4 games, but this one right off the bat had a great movement feeling with a controller. Controlling Alex really did feel great, I liked moving around with him, it made traversal and combat more satisfying and less frustrating. Combat does feel good in my opinion (although parrying is incredibly difficult, dodging and rolling doesn't have i-frames, and also requires intense precision). With those additional elements, I can see why people dislike this combat because it is more complex than just bashing or spamming fire. You have to aim with your guns, you can do combos with melee, enemies can easily one shot you (because there are no button prompts for various situations...). It's much faster; and on that topic, enemies, while not greatly varied, are really cool. I liked their designs, reminded me of the other games. Bosses? Awesome - a blast to play the bosses. Music? Great as expected. Atmosphere? Oh man - particularly, when in the Other World, the sets are awesome. Gross, mechanical, orange, rusty - a pleasure to traverse and look at, especially with the nice filter they have on it. That's when this game feels like a Silent Hill game, when you are in the Other World. The transition in real time is nice to watch as well. When you are in the normal world, this game doesn't really feel like a Silent Hill, almost more like Resident Evil than anything - just an action/kinda spooky game. I didn't really care or mind, just as long as I enjoyed myself. For the most part I did. The story invested me enough to want to finish the game - but definitely had some weird/annoying parts in the second half of the game. I suppose I'd recommend, but do know, it's a gamble, because it could totally not work.

pleasantly surprised by this. It seems I might be in the minority on this opinion, but I quite enjoy the combat. There aren't that many different weapons, so I actually end up trying out all of them to get a gauge on which to use in what situations. The veils/combat skills have a bit more variety to them and was a bit overwhelming at first since you can equip 8 of them at once. I have found the story, side quests, etc. thus far to be interesting and I quite like the characters. The voice acting in English is awesome as well - was expecting something a bit on the cringey side but the VA's did incredible jobs. Character customization as you likely already know is massive and robust, so playing with the character you made is fulfilling.

Coming to this from Dark Souls, for example, feels clumsy. Even at 20 hours in I still stumble with the controls and muscle memory default to pressing the wrong key - and in my opinion, remapping the default controller controls doesn't make sense because they work really well for Code Vein. So this is more of a personal problem than game problem, but something you might experience as well.

I don't really have any fundamental issues with the game or gameplay. I will say though, a lot of the hitboxes or hitbox range on weapons feel strange, like they are consistently falling short of where I would expect them to land based on the swing animation and weapon size. The parrying with the veins is cool, and each veil has a different type of parry it can have, but they are difficult to use as the timings vary greatly. So much so I usually need to anticipate that the enemy AI to be successful. I don't think I'd prefer it being different, but it can be frustrating how slow the parry animation to "parry" is. A lot of the game designs are very gaudy, which I don't mind for the most part, but if I feel like using a normal ole sword of sorts - well I can't. Some of the usable weapon designs are a bit silly in my opinion, but it fits the world. Something beyond gameplay that you might care about is just graphics as well. The game looks great - if you have a good PC you'll definitely enjoy the visuals here. However... if you like high frame rates, be prepared for some hyperactive cloth physics and no jiggle physics.

Edit: so it seems like they have done something about the hackers in the game, maybe it's just luck though. I will say, this game is fun, but it does get stale quite quick because the stage cycling does seem to give the same stages over and over again. But this game also did just come out it'll definitely improve with time.

It's nearly unplayable - quite literally all of my recent matches have had *at least* one flying hack player. Don't waste your money until there is a fix in place. The game is fun when it can be played fairly though.

You can name Yu Big Chungus

Edit: Actually this is probably the best game I've ever played. And for the price of $20 there is no reason not to buy.

Not worth $60 of my hard earned Big Chungus Bucks; wait for this to go on sale.

EDIT: Okay so now that I finally got around to replaying this a couple times, I still stick by my original opinion that 60 bucks is very steep for how short the story is. Yeah it comes with RE Resistance but I played it once and just wasn't feeling it. Plus, I bought this solely for RE3 and I'd happily buy an RE3 without it.

Don't get me wrong, I do think the game is good, very good as an RE game. But I was salty after preordering this, getting a six pack of beer after work, booting this up, and finishing it before I finished the 6 pack. I was genuinely surprised by it's length. I can't speak for the original RE3 as I never played it, but it just felt like it lacked a particular variety I was expecting it to have of environment and such.

When this goes on sale absolutely pick it up - but I will leave my review as not recommending because I would like to see future RE games and RE Remakes stay filled with a longish story. Part of the reason why I like RE games is because you can't blast through the entire thing (usually). Like honestly, I just beat this thing in 1 hour 44 minutes... I'd love there to be more to this, but there isn't. There is some replay value to it because you can sit down and play it in one sitting - but I find myself wanting to replay the other titles more.
