Love this game to bits, my first playthrough was a self sufficient village with friends, only occasionally going into the city for trade. I was hesitant at first to play on my own for a second run, but decided to do it, interacting with strangers and living pretty much in the middle of society (also taking jobs I never had before) and it's ABSOLUTELY still worth it alone. It's such a cool microcosm of community, economy, politics and cooperation. In my experience 100% of the player base has been super nice thus far. You know how most games have kind of a honeymoon period where you're completely obsessed with them while you're first learning them? I have 150 hours in this game and that's still not worn off.

I will mention 2 downsides though:

1. It's very addicting. That's not a compliment (I hate that it often gets used as such), the fact that the server stays running progressing in real time, with a time limit and always something to do means your brain does not really leave the game when you turn it off. The optimal move is ALWAYS to play more, which can be very toxic game design. LUCKILY, they have introduced something called exhaustion, which limits you to a certain number of hours per day (4 hours in the case of my current playthrough), after which you can not do anything that consumes calories, so you can basically only walk around, pick fruits, trade and talk. Without crafting or using any tools, that usually incentivises you to turn the game off before long. UNLUCKILY, this setting is not that popular with the community and most servers disable it (I'm not sure if it was even made with addiction in mind, they just didn't want players who can put a ton of time into the game outpacing the casual players as much).

2. It's a big commitment. Once you've found a server you like, you are expected to log in pretty much every day for a month. If you can only do an hour each day that's fine, but try not to miss too many completely.

Despite this, do NOT play this game singleplayer, I started a little bit of that to learn the basics, got attached to my world and kept it going for a while and tbh that was a mistake. Almost all the fun comes from playing your role in a larger society, connecting roads, trading, thinking about what jobs are needed, etc. If you play singleplayer it's just extremely slow minecraft
