I have been playing Football Manager since FM19, and I can *confidently* say this is the worst FM I have played.

We see FM22 move in the direction of making most tactics and ways of playing viable. What does FM23 do? Completely destroys tactics so that only certain playstyles are viable.

Regen faces get worse. Graphics stay the same. Loans are still non-negotiable, set pieces are broken, dynamics and morale are the same unplayable minigame with broken promises. I have never seen defenders pass to the opposition striker in front of goal so many times in my playtime and I have played in the lowest of the lowest tiers before. Defending is absolutely terrible.

In my Sampdoria save, I conceded around 40-50 goals in 20 games. I can CONFIDENTLY say that 10 were tactical mistakes. I had 17 goals (I counted) where the GK or the CBs literally just passed to the striker. I had 8 goals where 3 of my defenders let the winger run in to the box, watched him, let the keeper save and the opposition striker score off the rebound. I conceded 10 goals from outside the box volleys. Far outside the box.

The game is playable if you exploit the match engine, ignore the significant faults of this game and imagine the match in your head. Otherwise it's a game with PS2 graphics, 10 year old issues, and defenders with the cognitive capacity of a lemon. Do not buy this game.
