Fell through a roof and lost everything

Simple and snappy while staying challenging and fun. Very fun in multiplayer.

Writing having briefly played during the free weekend, so read this as my first impressions from someone who loves FtK1.

FTK1 to FTK2 is a textbook example of the importance of visual clarity and UI design to gameplay experience. I can only speak for me and my FTK cohort, but we were baffled by a UX that is best summed up as annoying.

The changes to combat are interesting. The system has more room for depth and decision making than the first game, and some may greatly prefer the new system. In multiplayer, we found these changes a slog as the bloated initiative tracker, combined with the cluttered UI slowing us down, had us begging for combats to end. To put it simply, it was too much of a departure from the simple and snappy combat that we loved from the first game.

Perhaps we are just getting old and are too stubborn, but by the end of the night we were back in FtK1 laughing and having fun.

All that is to say, when it comes to For The King, less is more.

Cool classes ruined by everything else
