What a treasure of a game. Amazing music, beautiful pixel art and very well written. There's no excuse not to play this, especially considering it's free.

The game displays all of the same camp, humor and absurd violence you would expect if you're a fan of the original movies. it's not a AAA game, nor does it ever pretend to be. In the case of this particular game, the lack of big budget polish feels like it can honestly be attributed to a conscious effort in making the game feel closer to the source material, in which case it works perfectly well.

The graphics are not stunning, but do have a few "hey that's pretty" moments. The gore effects are appropriately over the top, and the voice acting is hit or miss. When it hits, it's great. Including the return of Peter Weller himself as the voice of Robocop. Guns feel weighty and impactful, critical hits are satisfying, and the availability of supplemental explosives, fire bombs and other weapons makes the encounters feel fun and engaging.

This game is deeper than you might expect of a Robocop game. Most would be happy with linear shooting galleries, buckets of blood and the occasional catch phrase. However what is offered here is considerably deeper. There is a wealth of side quests, things to find off the beaten path and skill trees which are satisfying to build out. The spec system provides opportunities to maximize certain attributes at the cost of others, create a balanced build or even use specific bonus mechanics to override the need for certain stats entirely. I must admit that it was far deeper than I was expecting.

For the asking price, I think this game is just about right. And that's not counting the NG+ which is intriguing given you're pretty much a one man army by the end of the first playthrough.

If you're a fan of the movies and their irreverent but warm and fuzzy nostalgia, then this is the Robocop game you've been waiting for.

The definitive way to experience Horizon: Zero Dawn. No question. Looks amazing, controls amazing, I've played 62 hours and only experienced one crash. That's pretty incredible for a game of this size.

This game has some clear SotN vibes, which is a good thing. The visuals are wonderful and detailed. The music is particularly great, though the sound isn't exactly groundbreaking. It's still perfectly serviceable though. Overall, it's a fantastic way to kill 60-90 minutes. Really looking forward to the full version.

This review will be updated over time. As of this writing, I am only 2 hours in.

So far I'm enjoying it quite a bit. At first I almost kind of laughed at the combat system, but then it started to develop this hypnotic rhythm. It's different from any other MMO I've played, whether that's good or bad. As a Wizard, things became a little more normal and "MMO-like" once I got some spells. But I still think it's kind of unique how all the enemies are in groups. I'm not sure if that's a design limitation, or intentional. But it seems to work. The loot explosion after downing 2 or 3 packs of monsters seems almost Diablo-like. I do feel a little bit overpowered, but I also have found that I can't just mow down monsters 2-3 levels above me easily. So it's pretty well balanced so far.

It's a little janky, but that's to be expected. Getting hung on monsters and players when trying to ride somewhere is annoying, but tolerable. The UI is serviceable, but not fancy.

The game reminds me of Everquest in a few ways. (Good ways) Despite the glowing red arrows at the beginning, you are quickly left to find things to do on your own. And that means just exploring. (Gasp, I know!) We actually used to just run around aimlessly and discover things in MMOs back in the day, believe it or not. And that feels like a rare occurrence in most modern MMOs. Second, is the charming atmospheric sounds. Especially in the restaurant in the first village. Cheesy, but it works if you like that old school vibe. The sounds of melee combat on the other hand are pretty offensive. Like somebody punching a bag of dirt.

I learned early on that I should just click where I want to go, and let the game path me there. Because trying to ride or run somewhere is an exercise in futility. To not be able to drop down hills or cliffs in an open world game in this day and age is absurd. I really hope that gets fixed soon. Same with the water. The bridge of rocks near the starting village blew my mind with how poorly implemented it was. How can I not just run across a stream?

I'm looking forward to playing this a lot more. And will also throw some currency the developers' way to support this endeavor. I love seeing a game take shape, especially one with this much nod to the old school of MMOs.

There's some good here, but unfortunately a lot more bad. Too much bad for me to recommend it. So, like many here, I'll go through a list of Pros and Cons. Obviously there will be a lot of comparison to D3, but if you're going to make your game this similar to D3 on purpose, then you should expect comparisons.

Pros:

- Pretty much unlimited choices of class and spec. The Skill board is HUGE. And you can pretty much come up with any style you can imagine.
- Solid combat. It's just as addictive as D3, maybe a little moreso since you are not limited by class.
- Plenty of loot to be found all the time. After all, that's what you play a game like this for. It shouldn't even count as a Pro, it should be expected.
- Great transmog system. Tons of styles, dyes, and a very robust and detailed interface for it. Of course you still have to pay gold to change your look, which I will never understand in any game.
- The game really looks good, especially if you can run everything on Ultra High. Particle effects, blood spatters, and boss designs are pretty good. Except you fight the same "Justicar" boss guy 3 or 4 times, except just a different name each time.

Cons:

- The final boss fight is bugged. There are work arounds, but they're absurd, like waiting a few second during phase switches, and other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that's impossible to do while 3000 things are exploding on the screen all at one time. The fact that the game has been out over a week and the FINAL BOSS FIGHT is still broken is unacceptable.
- The maps are huge, but going to the far corners to explore often presents you with nothing. No chests, no loot, no monsters. So think twice before you waste your time running to that far corner of the zone that you missed earlier.
- Loot drops feel completely random. Tough drawn out fights that exhaust all of your resources will often result in a couple of trash white items. Big glowing chests will often reward a trash piece as well, and nothing else.
- Right clicking to sell to the vendor is an exercise in patience. Sometimes the right click does nothing. Sometimes it tries to drag the item. Basic user interface stuff completely broken.
- The stash interface sometimes just stays up on the screen, no matter what you do. Sometimes you have to restart the game. Sometimes you'll get lucky enough for it to randomly fix itself. Again, unacceptable for a $40 game.
- Monster groups are bland and uninspired. They are often randomly thrown together with no logic behind them. Bats and soldiers. Spiders and ghosts. Demons and bears.
- Every level is the same. Run 20 feet, fight a group of monsters. Run 20 feet, fight a group of monsters. You can almost tell when another pack will be ahead, and just run slightly around it because its so predictable. Sure that's kind of the point to this genre of game, but there's no dynamic to it. It's just the same distance each time, and then another pack of monsters.
- To the above point - no side quests, no NPCs, nothing out in the world that makes it feel worth saving, or like it's lived in. There's the main city, but nobody there can be interacted with. It often made me wonder who would want to save a world with one city, and nothing else but monsters roaming around.
- The alternative mode, which seems like it's going to be the most fun (Like the Adventure mode in D3) is locked unless you beat the main story. And since the last boss is bugged, you can't even unlock the mode. It's ridiculous. Made even worse by the fact that the story is laughable, cliche, and just generally boring.

I've put about 20 hours into this game, and I won't deny it kept me hooked. But that's a testament to the design of ARPG games. That's what they're supposed to do. Put you in an almost trance like state while you run down hordes of monsters and upgrade your gear.

In that respect, this game succeeds. But that's not hard to do. There are dozens of Diablo Clones out there. Most of them not in Beta for years, only to be released as a buggy mess.

I may revise my review somewhere down the line. The final boss needs to be fixed. I could have finished this game today, but now I'm stuck at that fight because it's bugged. The most recent patch lists ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like fixes to portraits and block percentages when you CAN'T KILL THE LAST BOSS. It's pretty absurd.

Save your $40 for now.

****** Review Update - Suffice to say the developers of this game have gone above and beyond in fixing the existing issues, as well as implementing new features and absolutely listening to the community.

Pretty much everything in my Cons list above has either been resolved, or improved upon significantly. This is especially impressive when you take into account the health crisis that was occurring worldwide right around when this game was released. So kudos to the developers of this game, and I hope they're staying safe.

It's not fair for me to leave a review as thumbs down, with no update, when it no longer represents the current product.

Kudos to the Wolcen team, and I look forward to logging many more hours in this game, and seeing what cool additions they come up with.

This game renewed my faith in JRPGs. I've been gaming since 1986, and I've been through my share of JRPGs. For most of the 2010s, I was hesitant to touch anything with the label. But this game, the characters, the relationships, and the combat sucked me in and I wasn't able to stop until I finished it.

Pros:
- The combat is turn based, but with enough tweaks that it remains interesting. By the end, you will be using the Turbo button to speed through easy battles, but the AoE skills, and ability to strategically move around in order to stay in range for party buffs, in addition to the random perks you get when it's your turn make it interesting enough to plan out battles.
- The dialogue is well voiced in English, and the relationships are believable. The female characters are not your usual over sexed stereotypes. Sure a few of them are well endowed, and there are some awkward romance themed moments, but the game treats the characters as what they are. Teenagers. And they act as such. It's endearing and fun. I actually thought deeply about who I would spend my bonding points on, aside from just leveling up the links for combat.
- The added quality of life features for the Steam version are FANTASTIC. The Turbo button is a godsend. The ability to save anywhere is awesome.

Cons:
- The ending drags on for a bit, but there's a reason for it. In the end, it's more of a pro. You will feel emotional about it.
- Like any other PC game, it's possible for it to crash. But in 70 hours, my game only crashed twice. So barely a con.
- The Abandoned Schoolhouse is a love it or hate it system. It can be repetitive. About 3 or 4 times into it, I was rolling my eyes at having to do it again. Fortunately, it changes enough each time that the mechanics keep it somewhat fresh.
- The final dungeon can be confusing, and it becomes hard to remember where you've been and where you need to go. This wouldn't be so noticeable if the rest of the game's dungeons weren't so well put together and streamlined.

I rate this game a 9.5/10. Can't wait to play the second one.

This game is charming as hell. I bought it, and before I knew it, my Steam account said I had put 75 minutes into it. I hope to put a lot more time into it.

It's got an addictive quality to it, but it's not brazen about it. It has enough humor to keep you interested. Obviously lots of people have played it longer than me, so this is just my interpretation after 1 hour and 15 minutes.

For $2.49 (on sale) it's an absolute steal. I'll be playing the heck out of this game down the road, and I look forward to the irreverant 90s RPG game humor for sure.
