I feel like most of the negative reviews are people who wouldn't be fans of this type of game anyway. I started playing back in something like 2015, when it was still 15$ and in beta testing. I will say I'm not PARTICULARLY happy about having to buy DLCs to access content updates going forward- but I understand that Hinterland's funding isn't going to last forever and this is the cost if we want them to continue developing the game.

I keep seeing comments like "half a game" and "finish the story" but if you're playing The Long Dark for the story primarily then like I said it might not be your type of game anyway. The story didn't even come out until 2017 and at least for me has never been the main draw of the game. I do feel like the game could use more free content updates, but I like how far the game has come from the undeveloped early access that it was 8 years ago.

10/10 would rage again

steam says 5 hrs but i played loads more before it was on steam. probably closer to 30+ hours.

as far as free horror games go this is pretty much as good as it gets. you wanna play something scary that has a strange amount of replay value? this is your best bet. ♥♥♥♥ 173....

I wish there was a vote between yes and no. I didn't dislike it but it isn't phenomenal.

I had fun. got frustrated bc the mechanics can sometimes be really annoying. lotta typing. dont get it if you aren't into wasting copious amounts of time. kinda feels like artificial difficulty eventually, cause if you don't know exactly what you're doing you kinda have to play the game over and over again.

edit: in 13 hours i've gotten as far as level 3 because i keep having to restart due to excess 'trace.' if your trace gets too high it basically becomes impossible to do anything and the level restarts itself every time you hit 100%, putting you in an effective limbo. also your trace carries over between levels (??????????)

you can't skip the tutorial and the levels have to be played consecutively. (you can't select level 1, 2 etc. specifically.) This means that if you ♥♥♥♥ up and have to restart you have to play ALLLLL the way from the tutorial through all the stages you've already played. Idk if you can tell but this is my biggest peeve with the game. I would say it's definitely a fun concept and I enjoy playing it when I feel like I have time but it's definitely not for the faint of heart or people with limited timetables.

I've spent 13 hours just learning the rules of how to play and the patterns of the first 2 levels. it feels very procedural, like it wants you to learn a specific way to play it through trial and error and for some people you might find yourself burning out before you even finish level 1.

a pretty fun reformatting of the battle royale genre. kinda like a flash game so it's easier to spend time playing than something like pubg cause it feels less demanding

tons of fun if you like star trek. customization is cool and missions/story are surprisingly fun/interesting. only downside is missions and combat can be slightly repetitive, but idk what else you can really expect from an MMO. free-to-play also feelsgoodman. good reviews all around.

Great singleplayer! Even better now that it has multiplayer capabilities. 10/10 would recommend.

Gameplay 8/10. Can sometimes get a little repetitive, but it's fun in short bursts.
Graphics. 5/10. The game looks nice, but I wouldn't say it's god tier top of the line graphics.
Replay Value. 10/10. Definitely would come back and play again.

Definitely worth your time if you have a few spare bucks.

Brilliant game, I could spend thousands of hours playing it as it's so perfectly made. I recommend this game over Call of Duty and Halo to anyone who likes first person shooters, even if the graphics are outdated.
