I hold a special love for this game.
I love the style of stop animation and art throughout this game.
The character design is great and I love Hazel's personality. Hazel and other characters in this game talk and act like real people do, with complexities, and emotions pushing decisions. This game like many others touches on generational trauma, the journey of grief, and love.
The landscape was designed very well.
The story is gorgeous and rich.
The combat is a little clanky at times but it didn't bother me much.
The amount of collectibles in this game... Decent lore in some of those too.

Before falling for absolutely every object in my home, I glitched out of my house, got hit by a car and died.
10/10, wish it wasn't almost impossible and incredibly time consuming to 100% this game <3

I was going to wait until I finished the main game and the DLC's to write this review but on a whim, I decided to start a new game to get the 'Chicken' achievement. Best achievement and "choices matter" option ever. I laughed so hard. There are also so many cats in this game Milton's Rest (the cat memorial) made me cry, genuinely. There are also frogs both present and mentioned in the game and that's automatically a 12/10 game for me.
In all seriousness,
The Talos Principle 2 is an absolutely stunning sequel. I did not expect it to be as good as the first, but I was fortunately wrong.
There are new mechanics and devices to solve puzzles that were exciting to figure out how to use. I enjoyed the many Easter eggs planted through each section of the Island, as well as the variety of references to the first game, the 'ancient world', and Pink Floyd <3.
The Talos Principle 2 has the ability to calm me, frustrate me, and engross me into the world and lore of New Jerusalem while pushing me deep into philosophical thoughts and debates about morality, ethics and consciousness...
The character design I feel was very well done. Having a small group of companions with contradictory beliefs was perfect in a game centred on trying to make sense of the ever-changing and potentially growing world. How we as the individual '1k' see the world... who we agree with, and how we manage new information is entirely up to us. It allows for conversations that can go either way The dialogue options for Thecla and Helga were great touches.
In a world of conscious robots, you'd think grief wouldn't be a focus. It was, at times. I did empathise with these characters and finding the mini character developments fascinating. The loss of friends and family - in this case Athena and Cornelius losing Miranda, and an accident killing a small group from New Jerusalem previously - would change people's perceptions, goals, and logic. That was illustrated in a great manner. The feelings expressed in Athena's memories and messages felt so genuine and realistic. How quickly do we lose sight of the point and isolate someone when we idolise them? Do we bother to ask them how they're feeling early on or do we just get upset when they 'abandon' us? Coming to understand that allows for growth.
Edit: Started playing the DLC's and oh boy it gets better...
Overall, fantastic game. Highly recommend.

What a great game.
The ambience and vibes are quite different from Oxenfree, but still make the story and the exploring fun and interesting.
I found that Oxenfree 2 builds a world where different characters are experiencing different types of grief and finding ways to cope.
By the end of the game you discover Riley has grieved her mother leaving, her relationship with her father and coming to terms with him being unwell, and the future life she has or would have had with her son Rex. Riley's dialogue suggests she accepts the way things were and will be, ready to move on and just do what needs to be done.
Jacob grieves the life he could have had if he had left. If he had read the letters, and had moved off the island - if he wasn't the fix-it man. Jacob experiences depression and goes through self-deprecation because he doesn't believe he's lived a life worth remembering, and won't do anything meaningful with his time.
Olivia grieves the loss of her parents and the plot of the story is her bargaining to get them back, in a reckless and misled attempt.

It's beautiful to see grief displayed in an authentic way. It was interesting to see how the story of Oxenfree continues and how the events of Edwards Island carry over to Camena.
The game is a little quiet at times if you don't frequent the radio and use the walkies as much, but is still enjoyable.
9/10 got to pat Athena a whole bunch.
