I bought this on a whim, not really knowing the series. I didn't know it would be a randomly generated TPS souls-esque. I played the first game and had fun all the way until the final boss, which I can only describe as "Borderline BS" for a new player just wanting to finish the game. The second game cranks up the difficulty for most of the game, but not to that level. I haven't played much co-op.

This game is fun. It's not overly ambitious. As a fan of Looter Shooters, Souls, and Roguelikes, I feel like this game was made for me. I just wish there was more to the game. I've finished most of the game on nightmare and finished a survivor hardcore run. Beyond playing all the stories, the randomness makes it hard to get all the stuff you might want for a specific build in a single run.
