im the joker, baby

after >20 years of making horror games that strive and fail to reach silent hill 2's level, we've decided to just make silent hill 2 again. and - credit where it's due - it very nearly reached that dizzying height again.

addendum: this game isn't steam deck verified because it played like absolute garbage on release, but after a couple of optimisation patches i can play through the whole game experiencing only a couple of frame drops in specific areas. i changed my compatibility tool to 'proton experimental' and turned the graphics to low, and it ran great, huge improvement from launch.

its like if sonic was good

lots of fun. very evocative of those early hp games, but with lots of opportunities for creative problem solving and goofy co-op fun. the devs puts a lot of trust in the player to break the game without TOTALLY breaking the game, and it results in a feeling of freedom and power similar to that found in late-game cruelty squad. can't wait for the full release.

short term wishlist: a settings menu + nameplates for co-op so you can tell your friend apart.
