It's a silly, not very realistic simulation to mess around in. However, the best thing about the game is how often it's updated. For an indie dev team they roll out a lot of good updates quickly.

Downloaded a mod that makes my birth rate go way up, thinking I would be overpowered since my factories would have more people to work in them later in the game. Instead, my country went into bureaucratic hell and could not manage my rapidly increasing population. My lack of Bureaucracy meant I couldn't tax anyone, meaning I couldn't get any money. Because I had no money, I couldn't build any buildings. Because I couldn't build any buildings, my population starved to death as there were no farms to work on. Because we didn't generate any food, my country started taking food from my overlord's market. This meant that I was in permanent economic stagnation, and my overlord country was starving to death and was fragmenting into a million pieces. Also, because I couldn't build anything, my military could get no supply and I couldn't conquer anything. My standard of living dropped to the absolute minimum the game could handle and my population rose to a point where the game couldn't make sense of numbers that high.

It's a Vox Populi game, so it's pretty fun. Play the Europa one first if you are new to the game series, as that is the best introduction in my opinion.

The new post-apocalyptic scenario needs some more cooking. The ability to kill other candidates through a vote is fun and chaotic enough for a side mode, but the fact that those laws are one-off limits the amount of strategy that can actually be put into those decisions. The dread mechanic, however, is just kinda lame? I only played through it once, but it just seems to screw over late-game AIs and acts as an annoying roadblock for otherwise successful players.

There's some problems that also apply to other Vox Populi games, like ideological weights seeming pretty useless and rushing PP early game for a maxed out team seeming like the only feasible strategy. The Vox Populi games are pretty fun so I don't want to downvote but this game's "new feature" is a fun but so far unsuccessful idea.

As much as I want to give this game a good review... I can't.

90% of it is fun. Managing your nation, responding to events, and managing time wisely is fun. But the ways it's broken feel really fixable? Not telling how to increase resource caps, not giving clear directions on what certain routes will bring you (although, to be fair, that could be a feature), and, most importantly, skipping eras for no real reason. Punishing the player for playing slow with suddenly more features feels like a really stupid game design concept. The game does not warn you about this possibility as well. I would get if there was some grander mechanic to speed things up, but at the moment I don't want to play the game again because I feel like the game would just grow tired of me having fun.

What is fun about the game: Country based spreadsheet simulator, always feels like you're growing, a lot of strategy involved with node placement, with circumstances always changing for how you play the game. Starting locations and node choices also mix up strategies a lot, increasing replayability. All in all, 6/10. But I also need to rate it on potential. It has the potential of an 8/10 game, with simple problems that couldn't take more than a week to fix. Because of the missed potential that this game has, I can't recommend it at this state. You may still enjoy it, if you like the sound of the game, but be prepared to be frustrated. I am excited about the sequel, though.

There are more ways to die in this game than the actual population of Finland.

10/10 would buy again (Maybe with less horrifying giant daddy long legs next time though)

Genuinely great paradox DLC, adds content that makes great powers feel fittingly great to play even when not going for an economic campaign. The only downside is that puppets feel much worse to play.

Don't be fooled by it's lackluster advertising or it's seemingly casual nature, this game is good! I started off the series with BMC which, in retrospect, wasn't the best introduction. Then I came to this game, and... It single handedly made me love tower defense games.

Pros:
New cross-pathing system adds a new layer of strategy. Not only is it "what tower do I get?" or "should I upgrade this tower?" but "how should I upgrade this tower?" and "which of these upgrades benefits this tower in its current state?"

Many different maps and many difficulties + player made challenges can sustain you for hundreds of hours! Not that I actually played for hundreds of hours! Of course I didn't! (awkward laugh)

Like really good artwork and music. Like really good.

I'm so glad that i'm alive. Except that the sun is red and Mars just collided with Earth, plus the fact Jupiter is tiny and my face burnt off. In retrospect this day could go better.
