Very disappointing game, absolutely barebones in features. In many ways this game is a massive step back from Victoria 2, which is a much better strategic historical simulator game for this era. The game mechanics are seemingly designed to prevent anything resembling a plausible historical outcome; Any "diplomatic play", even the smallest conflict, is likely to devolve into a pan european war wherein all the great powers are happy to throw millions of men into a meat grinder in return for 'favors' from a tiny irrelevant nation. There are not really any differences between countries, even between major european powers and tribal disorganized societies the gameplay is basically the same, leaving europe often unable to defeat what should be tribal nations and thus virtually no colonization.

Basically in summary, the wars are uninteresting and uninvolved, the economy is nothing more than an anno esque (but less fun) supply chain simulator, and diplomacy is virtually non existent. Effectively nothing in terms of national flavor or historical events.

Play Victoria 2 with the Historical Project Mod, 10+ years old and still far more interesting gameplay than what you'll get here. I also am certain that the developers knew this game was practically unplayable, yet I have no doubt they will still get defensive and complain about their "toxic community". Perhaps they wouldn't get so much hate if they at least put out quality products, but they have been abusing their fanbase for years with anti-consumer corporate policies while putting out little more than rushed bare bones flops. I have spent many 1000s of hours on paradox titles over the years so I am sad to say my patience with them has just about run out.
