- Pace of progression is solid.
- Farming mats is not a chore, nor is it so easy as to be an afterthought.
- Just enough depth to each mechanic (Servants, Prisoners, Blood buffs, etc) without anything being convoluted.
- Day/Night cycle is meaningful and sunlight dangers are significant but not crippling
- Bosses are all genuinely engaging.
- Any build feels viable.

I feel that Weapon upgrading is a bit procedural. One extra level of customizability on Weapons would be great. I always used Axes, when I think the game wanted you to be swapping weapons a lot. With weapon being the core of your playstyle, I would prefer to be able to customize them rather than be (Softly) expected to change weapons.

A remarkable adroit first outing in an ambitious adaptation.

None of the core gameplay concepts fall flat.

- The interface is great and easy to use, no small feat for a CRPG
- It manages to very faithfully adapt 5e mechanics without letting them hold it hostage
- The Crafting system is simple and straightforward, pays homage to the rules, but gives you a lot of options and reasons to explore.
- The way Character Traits and Dialog works is inspired. It might not give you deep, gripping dialog, but it manages to make Player-Made blank slate characters feel like CHARACTERS.

The campaign story might not be viscerally moving or have the greatest writing, but the story is pretty concise and interesting. You know where you are, what you're doing, and why. That is, again, something a lot of CRPGs just cannot say.

TEMPORARILY not recommending.

The current build of the game is stunningly rife with bugs. Of the maybe 6-7 quests I have undertaken so far, 3 of them have bugged out so badly that I can't complete them.

The content so far is passably fine. The story setup so far is kind of meh. Crown of the Magister's setup was actually pretty interesting. The new Archetypes are fine and interesting.

I'm going to shelve this for a few weeks until they get their act together.

Considering that this is a proper expansion's worth of content for an awfully fair $12.99, and considering what a good product Crown of the Magister was (Honestly the UI/UX is pretty great in combat, though it could use some work on the inventory screen), I will give them a clean slate and proper shot once the lion's share of these bugs are fixed.

Update after completing:

Like, I RECOMMEND it, but I'm really not happy with it. The Lost Valley campaign is embarrassingly weak compared to Crown of the Magister. There's hardly any actual interactive dialog, and the final encounter seems to be easily bypassed with a Persuasion check.

Perhaps I missed something, but if I did, it must have been remarkably easy to miss, because I certainly did not rush (Look at my time played).

But I have to keep it as a NOT RECOMMEND. I would really love it if the Devs released a Free DLC that improved and expanded this DLC.

I love Larian, but WOTR is the BG2 to Kingmaker's BG1.

In my eye, these are the true spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate.

I think it falls well short of Subnautica 1, I still strongly recommend it.

The QOL improvements in terms of actually progressing through the story are YMMV. You'll either appreciate them, or sort of resent them. I realize after completing the game I never explored the area directly south or southwest of the center island, and looking at maps, there wasn't much of anything there to miss.

When I would have to venture under the seafloor in Sub1, I felt like I needed to provision myself and bring supplies and to build additional scanning bases and camps for exploration, and I never felt like I needed to in Below Zero. The one time I went really deep into caverns and biomes under the seafloor, I brought a bunch of supplies to build a base. Within 5 minutes of exploring for a good place to build geothermal reactors, I had found the literal ONLY thing I was there for, and there ended up being absolutely no reason for me to come back. There were no rare resources I needed more of, and no other plot items to find or explore for.

I remember when you really went deep in Sub1, you almost HAD to build bases because of how difficult it could be to navigate and how large the below-seafloor biomes were. In Sub1 I had my main base, I had 3 other scanning bases, and then I had 2 bases in caverns below the seabed. In Below Zero, I only had to build 1 additional base, and frankly I wouldn't have actually HAD, as there were plenty of other ways to stay warm.

As much as I like the SeaTruck, it's almost too versatile and capable. That's a big reason that I never had to establish new bases.

I also wish they did more with all the plants you can grow. There's literally 1 craftable food recipe (If you don't count smoking/cooking fish).

Even if they just required different fruits and minerals to make COSMETIC items. There's so few cosmetic items to be made in the game, and I would love a lot more to expand base building and being able to customize it and make it feel like home.

Oh also the way the partitions work for the large rooms is insanely cumbersome and rarely enables you to get a desirable result.

So lots of criticism, but I don't regret buying it or any time spent playing it.
