My exposure to the Gabriel Knight series began when I had first received a free copy of Gabriel Knight 3 from Columbia House in 1999. I didn't have a PC yet at the time so it was just gathering dust until a year later when my parents bought a desktop PC and I was eager to try it out which I ended up loving because I do enjoy vampire folklore. Years later when I revisited GB3, I felt compelled to try out the other games thinking they would be as good as the 3rd one. I've never played the original SotF in its pixelated glory but I wanted to give the 20th anniversary a shot because it was newer and had nicer visuals. Although I was a little disappointed that SotF didn't have vampires like the 3rd game and I didn't really care all that much about voodoo folklore, but nonetheless I pressed on, giving the game the benefit of the doubt. I was feeling kinda bad for Gabriel, as everyone including his partner Grace was so rude to him which I understand was supposed to provide comic relief and but still, he's the hero who wants to stop the murders. Also, I couldn't stand listening to the Jamaican narrator's voice that I had to turn it off. It was beyond irritating, especially how she kept on insulting Gabriel everytime he's unsuccessful. I wasn't feeling this game at all like I did with the 3rd one but I did love the visuals and some of the cozy locations that gave off a dark academia vibe.

This game really annoyed me to the core in several ways. As a fan of the comic books and movies, the way the storyline was written and how the characters were portrayed didn't sit well with me. Firstly, the Joker in the comic books and movies always struck me as this terrifyingly cunning mastermind vigilante, but here in the game, he's impressionable, dumb, naive, easily manipulated, and worst of all, he's basically Harley Quinn's lap dog. And how did Harley go from being a wildly manic codependent to a domineering head honcho? And then you have Bruce Wayne/Batman who's the world's greatest detective suddenly become a lackey to Harley Quinn and Waller, which seemed so out of character and maddening. Despite how wrong this game felt, I reluctantly pushed myself to finish it and acquire all of the achievements just so I can feel accomplished.

I first played the very first Life is Strange back in the mid 2010's on a $300 ASUS desktop that I got from Best Buy. How your dialogue choices can impact the storyline was very interesting to me, having played similar games before like The Walking Dead by Telltale Games and Mass Effect by Bioware. I love that Max, who is the main character in the game, is an amateur photographer and diarist - two things that I enjoy as hobbies. Collecting the optional photos was a fun scavenger hunt, and reading her journal with the artwork and scrapbooking was appealing. I see a lot of myself in Max in that she's shy, introverted, kind, loyal, and observant, which was part of the reason why I was compelled to see this game all the way to the end. There were some heartwarming moments I enjoyed between Max and Chloe, like when they were holding hands together as they're walking on the railroad tracks, or when they were at the junkyard and Max is guiding Chloe as she shoots bottles with her newfound gun as a first time shooter. The last chapter really caught me in a wild surprise, very mindblowing from Chloe discovering her best friend Rachel's body and crying hysterically as well as discovering the teacher Mr. Jefferson being a serial predator kidnapping and murdering students. Who would've thought that Max's charming mentor would turn out to be a murderer? That was totally wild. As for Before The Storm remastered which is my first time playing, having never played the original before, I actually enjoyed this one more. Firstly, the main menu music has a somber yet edgy feel that I love and found myself listening to repeatedly (I didn't like the menu music in the first game, sorry Max). Secondly, Chloe's Backtalk mode was highly entertaining, something I enjoyed way more than Max's time manipulation powers in the first game. Then, there's also that one scene where Chloe and Rachel are in a school play called The Tempest which turned out to be an absolute tearjerker and very touching. I was so moved by that scene, especially by the enchanting music that gently plays as Chloe bends her knee before Rachel. That warmed my heart. I also loved the Shakespearean dialogue, even though I haven't read Shakespeare. Graphics wise, I'm very satisfied and charmed with how the games look and feel. I love that the facial expressions on the characters are enhanced compared to the originals. Overall, I had a blast playing both games.

My days of playing Fear Effect began on the PS1 in 2000. I learned about the game from PSM and was intrigued with how the graphics featured dynamic backgrounds that really moved, which at the time was ground breaking to me. I had never seen anything like it. I rented the game and was able to beat it in a few days. I don't remember how I was able to successfully complete it before. I must've had a guide book or looked up the puzzle solutions on Gamefaqs because there's no way I would've been able to solve them on my own. Some of them were mind boggingly hard. WhenI finally got a chance to replay this game 26 years later because I wanted to relive my teenage nostalgia, the puzzles still stump me, and I had to resort to watching Youtube videos which is a huge godsend, otherwise I would've given up. I didn't find enjoyment in finishing the puzzles, I merely saw them as obstacles and all I wanted to do was to shoot things. There were a few occasions when I ran out of ammo and I had to either knife them as I'm getting shot at and dying and reloading my save over until getting past it which was profoundly annoying. Dodging enemy attacks by simply rolling was quite comical. The storyline didn't interest me much and I wasn't emotionally invested in any of the characters, although I did get some mild amusement from certain parts like playing as Hana while she's wearing a bath towel and then stripping her naked in front of an enemy as a distraction measure, or dressing up as a prostitute as a disguise to avoid gunfights. Despite some of my gripes, this game still charms me, probably because of how it brings me back to my childhood days on gaming on the PS1.

My first taste of Shenmue 1 started back in December 2000 on the Dreamcast. I was a teenager back then and had read about the hype surrounding this game on Dreamcast magazine, as well as watching the trailers repeatedly and being wildly excited that this was gonna be a game unlike any other. One day, I asked my dad if we could buy it so we went to Gamestop and as soon as I had a copy in my hand, I was overjoyed. Couldn't wait ot play it. As soon as we got home from work, I popped it into my Dreamcast and played while being deeply immersed. I was so hooked on it that sometime later, I brought my Dreamcast to my best friend's house, and he's a PC gamer who looks down on anything made on console and I wanted to impress him with Shenmue having graphics that was on par with PC games. He watched intently as I played and as I moved Ryo around Dubuita asking people questions, he was very intrigued with how it made him feel as if he was in Japan. It left quite an impression on him, and he ended up buying the games himself, even though he's not into most console games. I also had my dad and my sister who aren't big gamers watch me as I played the game and they were very impressed with how it felt like an action movie, watching Ryo taking out enemies with ease with his martial arts moves. That was what made Shenmue magical for me. When Shenmue 2 came out years later on Xbox, I bought that day 1 and played it extensively from start to finish. Loved it. Definitely an improvement over Shenmue 1 including a gameplay feature where you can ask people to lead you to your destination which was super helpful as I'm bad with directions. Years later, I bought this bundle on Steam and got 100% achievements on both games because they have a special place in my heart.

Long ago back in 1999 when I was a teen, I once had a PS1 from which I played countless hours of FF7. It was the first RPG that I took very seriously. I first became interested in the Final Fantasy games after being amazed by the cinematic game trailers and reading about it in magazines of how it was gonna be the next big thing. Before that, I did play a little bit of Final Fantasy Legend and Super Mario RPG as a child but couldn't really understand how to play them so I never got into RPGs, that was until FF7 came along. I even had a guide book that I studied extensively (at the expense of my studies). Speaking of studies, I wasn't doing well at school, I was constantly bullied so badly to the point that I had to drop out, the house I was living in was in poor condition that was freezing cold in the winter, and on top of that I had to deal with lots of drama and fighting in the family. FF7 was my salvation, the game that helped me cope with those dark times. It kept me sane and allowed me to escape into its living, breathing world filled with lovable characters and a compelling story with fantastic visuals and an unforgettable soundtrack. This is why it holds a very special place in my heart, for being there for me during my dark moments. I've re-bought this game several times - for PSP, PS4, and most recently for the PC, mainly because I no longer have any of my consoles, and that I felt my game library wouldn't be complete without FF7. No matter how many times I've played and beaten it, I don't think I will ever get tired of it. It will forever be one of the greatest games I've ever played.

As a huge Soul Calibur fan having played every single game including Soul Blade for the PS1, getting SCVI was a no brainer. Typically, I play SC on consoles so getting this one on PC was a first for me, and obviously I couldn't play it without an Xbox controller. I was really pleased with how gorgeous it looks and how smooth it plays. I even got my little nephews into this game which they grew fond of playing against and ribbing each other while having laughs. They also enjoyed the character creation mode where they must've spent as much time as the actual game (well, I did too). Just like the previous SCs before it, VI is a very fun fighter, plays like a dream in my decently powerful PC, and looks gorgeous.

**SPOILERS**
I love everything about this game - the characters, story, setting, atmosphere, gameplay, graphics, music, action...everything is all fantastically woven together to make it one of my absolute favorite games of all time. Long ago when I first played the demo, I was instantly hooked. I felt like I was in a thrilling cinema. Since I loved Quantic Dream's previous works - Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain, I knew I was gonna be in for a real treat with this one. Going through each character's story arc and what they all go through made me really care for them - Connor's rocky relationship with his partner, Markus being discriminated against just because he's a android, and Kara along with Alice getting tormented by their owner. Even though they're machines, but they still act very much human. Connor and Markus are both such badasses. I enjoy the action scenes so much that I can replay them over and not get tired. They're all so well done that you'd think it came from a John Woo film. There were so many memorable scenes that moved me to tears such as Markus' freedom march with the incredible angelic music along with his resolve to help the other androids fight against discrimination. Another is one where Kara with Alice eludes capture from Connor. The way Kara and Connor's music themes blend together as the tension builds is remarkable. Really gave me chills. This game truly is an experience to be remembered forever.

This was a drag for me to play through. Even though I did liked the first LiS a lot, I wanted to give this game a shot despite my initial disgust with the main character's look. Ugh, just look at her! She's got that Karen look with the ugly hairstyle, oversized glasses, and the chubby figure. I couldn't help but find myself disliking her throughout the entire game even though she's definitely not a bad person in any way, but I really did not care for her at all. The fact that her superpower is empathy is super lame and cringey, just like the plot and dialogue. Some people have said that this game feels short. However, I felt the complete opposite. This game feels SLOW - the cutscene interactions and storyline cutscenes bored me to death. Alex's commentary felt like filler which was aggravating because most of it was useless, didn't contribute to the plot, or came off as her trying to be a smart ass but ends up failing because it wasn't funny. The story itself being a small town murder mystery seemed weak and dull. I'm quite sure I'll forget about it within a few days. If there's one positive thing to say about this game, is that the environment designs are gorgeous, especially the cozy dim lit scenes with the string lights. I'm just glad I didn't buy this game at full price, otherwise I would've been upset.

This game is absolute poetry in motion. It is just as fun to watch as to play. It reminds of the old classic game Snake that I used to play on my Nokia phone, except that you can't really die. There's a lot of satisfaction in witnessing things bloom and restoring them into their former condition, and it's so beautiful. I love all the subtle touches and details such as when you hover over the grass, you'll hear shimmering chimes that sounds so pleasant to the ears. The sound design is what really makes this game sing. I wish there were more places to beautify because that would be a delight. Hands down one of the most beautiful games I've ever played.
