I never had a Dreamcast as a kid and Shenmue absolutely crushes early 2000's gaming. It would have blown me away back then and it's still quite enjoyable by today's standards. To say "the graphics are dated" is a hilarious understatement because nostalgia and cubical graphics, minus the actual Dreamcast load times, are precisely what makes this collection so special. The closest thing I played to this as a kid was probably Resident Evil, but that's a totally different type of exploration. The wildest thing about Shenmue is that despite its angular graphics, you might be surprised how accurately it still resembles the streets of Japanese neighborhoods. Though I won't lie, if you're younger than 35, I wouldn't expect you to be impressed with it. But if you want a taste of peak Sega, Shenmue is a banger.
