I would recommend America's Army (F2P, and developed by the ACTUAL FUCKING ARMY), although you are still put in a position of "I've been shot, so I'm gonna hurt". Another would be the entire Half-Life series, but It's mostly singleplayer (not that that's a bad thing), FEAR & FEAR 2 (although you can pick up medkits and carry them), Killing Floor, Left 4 Dead 2 (DO NOT BUY THE FIRST ONE. ALL OF L4D1's CAMPAIGNS ARE IN 2), the Jedi Knight series & Dark Forces (Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II is 17 years old, but still has an active modding community), Star Wars: Republic Commando, Max Payne (although that is third person), and of course, ARMA. These are all great games, and I have played every one extensively .
I like games where reload and ammo are a tactical factor (primarily for power weapons) and I also like the element of healing. The reason I like this is that it offers the winner of firefights the opportunity to heal up for another fair fight rather than being at a disadvantage. I think I prefer the healing by droids rather than the autoheal or recharging overshield, because it puts more pressure on the individual to act.
Since you seem to be a player that plays a lot of FPS games could I trouble you to make any recommendations?
