Definitely a promising demo! The combat and hero levelling systems have quite a few interesting new mechanics that require some getting used to but in my opinion they aren't too much to handle (although the first 5–7 hours of my playtime was basically just reading). Each hero skill is now more nuanced and adaptable, some have combined the effects of multiple old skills into one and even if two heroes have the exact same skills, they can still specialize in different things because of the subskills. Hero passives are usually more detailed and have a more noticeable effect on the gameplay, which is great.

Personally I like the art direction in general and the creature designs (both visually and mechanically) are mostly very interesting, although I feel that there's a bit of room for improvement still with the visual clarity in many situations, for example the clickable buildings in players' towns should be more distinctly outlined when hovered, the camera following NPC heroes between turns should stick to them more aggressively, and the spellbook should have more spells visible at once (and also show the names of the spellbook buttons when you hover over them).

The exploration is almost identical to Heroes 3 with a few tweaks, for example the neutral stacks have toggleable red danger zones, which I find a very nice complement to playing without a grid, which in turn makes the game look better. You can also zoom in to see the smallest details and zoom out way further than in the old Heroes 3. There are also some new overworld spells that make transporting armies and interacting with dwellings much less tedious (this reduces the skill ceiling of managing hero movement a lot but I find this very comfortable).

Some menus require light tweaks and quite a few ability and (de)buff descriptions are a little unclear as of now (especially the summoning mechanics and the math behind them!), also the hovering numbers when you pick something up from the overworld and some object interaction texts are not visible or clear enough.
The hero should also get a little "Level up!" text next to their level number (or something similarly eye-catching that prompts you to click on the number) when you have previously cancelled the skill choice screen, because for quite a while it made me think that I had completely lost a level's worth of exp after accidentally exiting the choice menu.

All in all a very solid and addicting gameplay loop that hasn't changed much from the predecessor, which is good :)
