Blegh, still having the same problem. Maybe the issue is somewhere else? You said windows 10 the steam icon should stay the same, but for me it's a black box like you said if for Win7 and 8.1. But it still gets me to Steam.

16bit 44100 Hz to be precise. It is quite unlikely the game understands 24bit audio, and even if it did the game came out before 64bit operating systems existed, it is unlikely the memory buffers would be capable of matching newer standards for drivers, unless you used Audigy or EAX drivers that actually existed back then. Many of the old games work fine if you set up a 32bit system for playing old games. Win8.1 at 32bit is the most compatible version of Windows for the largest number of old games to work.
