good ass game

one of the most popular games on Steam and they can't fill US conquest lobbies with real players just three weeks after release?

Portrayed as a rebellious, naive, punk-rock teen in the first game (which Max leveled all of Arcadia Bay to save), Before the Storm attempts to answer the complex question we all were asking, who is Chloe Price, really?

The answer, it turns out, is actually pretty straight forward: She's a grossly narcissistic sociopath and an absolute menace to all society. Within the first hour alone, it becomes readily apparent that, wherever Chloe goes, she leaves a trail of mass destruction behind.

Ultimately, Before the Storm is not really a game. It's more like a six-hour spectacle, a shock-and-awe performance, of non-stop petty crime, needless hostility, overt social manipulation, gratuitous violence, and terrible decision making; all perpetrated by Chloe Price. You would be hard-pressed to find any other human being who goes out of their way to make someone else's life miserable more than Chloe Price.

My conclusion is this. Chloe Price does not belong in these games. She belongs in prison.

(One can also reasonably infer that Max was aware of this, prompting her to skip town at the earliest convenience and rightfully ghosted Chloe's ass. Why she came back is up for debate.)

All in all this is a wonderful game. Rest assured, when the Remastered Remaster is released in two years, I will be buying it again.

When it comes to exceptionally cringey dialog, the finest of political hot takes, and a cast of generally unlikeable characters, the Life is Strange franchise is second to none. And that is why I have faithfully owned and played every single title.

So when I heard this modern and reasonably polished game was being remastered after barely seven years, I knew we were in for a hastily-made cash grab -- and boy was I right. Yes, some models and texturing have been improved, but all of that is overshadowed (literally) by some of the worst lighting I have ever seen in a video game.

For as much as I love to mock Life is Strange, I've always thought the lighting and art direction were genuinely quite good. Well no more. To convince us that the game actually looks different, their approach was to reduce the color temperature a few notches then crank up the contrast by 600%.

Virtually every scene is now either completely dark or blindingly over-exposed. When it's not, there's a bizarre tendency for scenes to be primarily lit from the ground up (as if ground reflections are brighter than the light sources themselves), making it look like everyone is holding a flashlight under their chin to light up their face. (And for the record, all my settings were indeed set at "Hella High.")

It is blatantly apparent that no meaningful testing went into these lighting adjustments, because the result is just embarrassing.

Having said all that, will I continue preordering the new releases? You're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ right I will. Life is Strange remains a timeless meme that I always plan on experiencing.

I first played this while I was a freshman in high school. Nine years later, I have to say it has become my favorite game of all time.

Like many games, it has its share of edgy southerners who can't resist saying racial slurs every three seconds in order to remind their team how edgy they are -- but genuinely dumb middle schoolers aside, the community is truly outstanding.

the first game itself was profoundly obnoxious, but they've really outdone themselves this time.

the biggest crime in this game is not the comically pathetic opening scene, but rather the painfully slow and predictable storyline that ensues as french writers attempt to capitalize on american politics with no real understanding or consideration for nuance or believability

I have despised Change.org for the past six years for hosting the dumbest petitions the world has seen, but I was left with no choice. Since you're using your lawyers to solve your software problems maybe now you can use them to solve the public image crisis. Best of luck.

Starting with the good: characters are not one dimensional and the fancy lighting and depth of field effects are neat.

But it basically ends there. The dialog in the game is totally and utterly unconvincing. It portrays people as gullible and easily prone to manipulation. It also introduces several elements that never play out or contradict previous statements.

The decision making component is rather intriguing but truly irrelevant at best, and totally arbitrary at worst.

The game is simply too unrealistic. Not because of the protagonist's powers or any of the supernatural things that happen, but literally because any mature person who plays this game will instantly notice how underdeveloped and rather childish the emotions by characters are. Most characters are in the 18-22 range, but their conversations and behavior are only really seen in people at least eight years younger.

Human emotion and social behavior is probably among the most nuanced and difficult things for people to understand. Humanity evolved over millions of years to conform into complex social structures, and it takes people easily over 20 years to grasp things like body language and subtle word-choice. That is basically spat upon by the dialog in this game. The emotions characters convey are so bombastically exaggerated it's truly comical and almost insulting.

The nearly impeccable rating the game receives is truly baffling. Cinematic masterpieces (such as Interstellar) are filled to the brim with nuanced emotions (except that awful part where Hathaway talks about love across dimensions), and with that movie a lot of people didn't even grasp the ideas. This game tries so hard to pander to vulnerable people, and to those on the outside it's obvious, but to those within it's just tragically accepted without a second thought.

Lastly, the events are highly predictable. The climax in the second episode can be simply guessed with total precision after only a few minutes in the beginning of the first. To be fair, the ultimate antagonist I did not guess at all, but the general lower-level cause-effect scenarios are absurdly easy to spot, again, largely because the emotions are so immature and unrealistic.

Play the game if you want to humor yourself, but if your dignity is important to you, I would advise staying away.

Imagine a world that's 15 years old and run by people who hate each other and don't remember George Bush. That's Garry's Mod.
