A genre-defining game. As someone who had never touched the Telltale games, I was shocked at how intriguing Dispatch's simple formula was from beginning to end. I can't recommend it enough.

The DLC is pretty much exactly what I was expecting it to be before I had started it up. While there are definitely a few annoyances to it, its more nightreign and a few new characters that have fairly unique playstyles. I like it.

Three spectacular, genre-defining games in their own right. Some of the best companions in any game out there. The Gilbert and Sullivan performer is an all-time favourite companion, what a guy. While each game has imperfections (not exactly avoidable ones) and the writing has some gaps, the games each just do too many things right for me to be too frustrated at any of them.

Having bought it on sale for 90% off, and I feel like a fool for having waited this long. If you're interested in Sci-Fi games at all, give it a go when the price is down.

Blood Typers makes me feel like I'm the best and worst typer of all time simultaneously. Truly a beautiful enigma. its definitely a game that requires your full attention, but if your brain isn't cooked its a great time.

TLDR: A truly spectacular game that I'd recommend to just about anybody.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a masterpiece in story and character writing. Every new cutscene got me excited, with the relationships between characters inside and outside of the party constantly evolving in a way that few games I've previously played have managed to equal. From beginning to end, every passing moment made me more and more interested in the world and the characters. Of course, the performances of the voice actors and the devs who worked on facial movements played just as pivotal a role in showing the complexity behind every single action. An absolutely outstanding game in these regards.

Mechanically, I found Clair Obscur to be great, but not perfect. As somebody who loves a good challenge, learning parry timings felt satisfying. The turn-based combat was at its best when I was barely succeeding, having party members die and comeback while sneaking in the occasional hit to slowly drain the opponent's health bar. Unfortunately, I did hit some small speed-bumps with regards to balance, finding myself simply starting every fight with the same moves and winning before the enemies even had a chance to go (even in roughly at level areas) on hard difficulty. Some later game bosses really quieted me down in this regard (looking at you, Verso's friend). I enjoyed the lumina system quite a lot, and was happy to keep swapping things around until I could find a build that sticks. I'm a bit less convinced by the balance of power between pictos and attributes, making attributes like vitality effectively meaningless in the endgame if your weapon doesn't scale off of them. While I could see how the mysterious camera angles and dubious parry timings could frustrate a lot of people, I wasn't all too bothered by them.

Obviously, the visual and auditory aspects of the game are exceptional. As somebody who uses a computer that is far from top of the line, I ran this game with all graphical settings on high and had very little trouble. If you're hitting vaguely close to the recommended specs, you should be good to go. I did experience the occasional desync between characters speech with their facial animations, but this rarely lasted long. In terms of sound design, I can assure you that there are some real banger tracks. As somebody who isn't typically huge into video game music, Clair Obscur got me to add a few tracks into my playlists. Overall, I couldn't ask for much more out of the audio and visuals.

So do I think that you should play this game? Considering that you've made it this far into my steam review, absolutely. There are few games that I would put above this one in the all-time RPG conversation. Even if you're not a big fan of turn-based combat, there's just something special to this one.

Phantom Liberty goes super hard, with both endings I experienced being incredibly well produced and thought provoking. Unlike the base game, I was really glued to the story from beginning to end. Would strongly recommend.
