Koji Igarashi's long awaited spiritual successor to Symphony of the Night exceeded my expectations. And for an old school platformer in this day and age, delivers a worthy entry to the "Metroidvania" genre.

Presentation
While the graphical fidelity is modest, it does have a distinct personality. Character and level design aesthetics will please fans of classic Castlevania. The music especially brings everything together, heightening moments and providing a rhythmic pulse to encourage exploration. Where it falls short are the included "elements" from the Kickstarter support, that stick out throughout. And, there are a few canned enemy sounds that become very repetitive as well.

Gameplay
This is where the game truly shines, providing a huge variety of options to open up the world and defeat enemies. And for those who love collecting items, there are plenty of reasons to farm for materials to stock up your massive arsenal. The only real disappointment for me is limited enemy types, with many reappearing with slight variations to imply a larger rogues gallery. The highlight for me are the Boss fights that can be frustrating at first, but with the right gear equipped they become a lot more manageable.

Challenge
The only real drawback is once you discover the more powerful shards and weapons, the game becomes a cakewalk. And some of them are downright broken, reducing all boss fights to nothing more than a nuisance. However, there are higher difficulty options to attempt that will test your skills, adding much needed replayability as well.

Overall
Bloodstained aims to please and it does, combining strong gameplay, a little nostalgia and fan service. Though not as impressive as I hoped, it does enough to keep me coming back to the game and exhaust every possible path and option available.

Pros-
Excellent stealth based platforming.
The variety of tools and abilities you can unlock.
Plenty of playthrough possibilities.

Cons-
Relatively short game but not sparse.
When targets overlap it makes selecting interactions inaccurate.
Would like more challenging options - hard mode.

Celeste has been getting much attention, ever since the nomination for "Game of the Year" at the 2018 VGA awards. The gameplay itself is above average with the overall challenge being fair but not as frustrating as other games of its ilk. Moreover, if you want to test yourself, there are harder levels you can access by collecting cassettes hidden throughout the game. There are even more difficult versions of the levels made after beating the cassette-locked ones.

However as far as the acclaim it's getting I don't see the big deal, it's a good game but nothing I would immediately recommend to anyone or even fans of the genre. There are better platformers out there like Dead Cells which came out the same year as Celeste. However, if games like Super Meat Boy or Cave Story are your thing, do pick up this game. It's a worthy addition to any collector of platformer/Metroidvania style games.

To me the best Batman game of any generation including all the sequels. Rocksteady not only expanded upon the first game “Arkham Asylum”, but also created what I would personally call the definitive superhero game.

Presentation
Arkham City encapsulates the look and feel of the grittier side of the Batman universe perfectly. The city itself is a massive landscape filled to the brim with easter eggs and many nods to the Batman lore. The soundtrack punctuates set pieces nicely and adds that extra layer of atmosphere. And the icing on the cake is the return of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising the voices of the Batman and Joker respectively.

Gameplay
Though I wasn't originally a fan of the "rhythm based" combat system in the first game, the novelty soon grew on me. Once you master the ability to string long uninterrupted combos together (alternating between special moves and gadgets), you will find out how rewarding things get when applying more finesse to your button presses. The action never got too repetitive especially with well crafted boss-battles bookending segments of the action nicely. And the stealth missions do provide a welcome change of pace from the more hectic street level interactions. But what you would probably mostly do is just glide around the city soaking up the atmosphere and taking out small pockets of crime. Basically Batman being Batman.

Challenge
The game is more than manageable on its normal difficulty, but for the true batman experience play on the harder levels without the "counter prompts" to truly feel like a badass. The stealthier “predator” missions can be completed with just patience alone but still provides many risk/reward situations to keep things exciting. Boss battles mostly rely too much on pattern recognition but still offer decent tests of reflex and environmental awareness. There are also puzzle mini-games provided by the Riddler strewn about the city that cater to the more completionist type of gamer that will pad the overall game time.

Overall
Flawless in execution and delivery. The game is a must buy and deserves a place in every gamer's collection.

I must admit in all honesty that these kinds of ‘games’ really aren’t my thing. I would personally categorise this release as something more along the lines of an ‘interactive story’. Cause to me it felt like just one super long cut-scene, punctuated with moments of what passes off as gameplay. And by that I'm talking about player interactions that barely extend beyond quick time events, minor exploration segments and some button mashing mini games.

So in order to keep my attention, Tales from the Borderlands really needed both plot and characters to go beyond expectations. And that’s where I have to give serious props to the voice actors and all those involved with the storytelling aspects of the game.

The characters are really likable (especially the robot companions), and the dialogue is sharp, funny and delivered well. What I really enjoyed most was how the writers expanded upon the lore of the other games, with cameos by some of my favourite vault hunters. That was enough to keep me invested all the way to the end. And I’ll come out and say that I even got a bit emotional during some of the major plot points. Don’t worry no spoilers here.

So overall as a game I don’t really think I would give it a high rating, but as an interactive story, Tales from the Borderlands is extremely well done. The cast did a spectacular job of bringing the story to life so I would definitely recommend it, especially if you’re a fan of the other games in the series.

To be honest, I like many others also got this game solely for the TF2 and Borderlands items. I really wasn't expecting too much when I first started playing, but eventually Poker Night 2 won me over with it's charm and atmosphere. The gameplay itself is nothing new or special, since games like these are more dependent on luck. But what kept me going, besides the grind for unlockables, were the interactions between the characters. I even found the different ways the characters busted out to be quite entertaining. For a while.

That's when things started to dip for me, cause once you clock in enough games, the dialogue variations wear out quickly. And I guess unless you're a Texas Holdem addict, things overall just get a bit too repetitive. But for it's price (especially during sale) and the cast of Claptrap, Brock, Ash and Sam, I would recommend Poker Night 2 for a quick time sink during days when you just wanna play some cards.

First off I wasn’t a follower of the comic series and I never played the preceding game. But that didn’t stop me from really enjoying the supernatural themed F.P.S “Darkness 2”.

What I loved most was the visual look, the “Borderlands” style cel-shading really adds to the comic book aesthetics and I wished more games adopted this art style more. The story is also quite well done albeit very reminiscent of a 90’s b-grade movie.

Gameplay is your standard shooter fare with a linear progression that basically amounts to going from one shootout to another. But the range of weapons and darkness powers makes each encounter fun and varied. And the overpowered executions are very satisfying to do. The A.I do present a decent challenge at first, though once you acquire all the weapon/skill upgrades the game becomes pretty much is a cakewalk even on the higher difficulty levels.

My only major issue with the experience was some weird technical bugs. While not totally game breaking they acted more as a constant nuisance. Mainly the game would sometimes go into a soft focus now and again, but that can be quickly rectified by reconfiguring the display settings. And there was a moment playing as the darkling where I was stuck in a vent by some clipping issues. That was also remedied by some display option rejiggering (setting vsync on/auto).

Overall I would still recommend the game especially when it’s on sale, it’s not a great but it’s very earnest in what it tries to be.

Taking from titles such as “Ico” and “Braid”, “Brothers: A tale of two sons” is a puzzle platformer that tries to tell a story more than anything else.

The game’s strengths are primarily in its narrative and art style. The developers and visual team did an outstanding job with the characters and the environments. Especially with the character animations that gave very effective emotional reactions. This definitely helped scaffold the story’s (somewhat) lack of dialogue. The environments also really create a sense of a world larger than the game, with screenshot worthy vistas peppered throughout the levels.

What I truly enjoyed most about the game was that it alway kept things simple and straightforward. It does have a very unique control system that took me a while to get used to. But once I got the hang of controlling both brothers simultaneously, things do breeze pass quickly... and that’s when I realised the only major flaw of the game.

Generally the problem with games like Brothers is that once you solve all the puzzles, there really leaves little to no room for replayability. With about 7 levels in total the game does it’s best to keep things varied. But it’s overall length and linear progression makes the full price seem a tad bit hefty. But as a game that’s story driven I can understand why it was probably a design decision to keep things free from extra padding.

Overall “Brothers: A tale of two sons” is a well designed game that wears its inspirations on it’s sleeve. Though a little short, the tale is well told and will ultimately leave a lasting impression on those who play it.

A simple puzzle game that pays homage to classics like The Incredible Machine; but when stacked up against such games in the genre, Eets Munchies really falls short in terms of complexity and replayability.

Most of the puzzles are rather straightforward and easily beaten, with a tiny handful of levels presenting any real challenge to puzzle game enthusiasts. This detriment contributes to the overall scant length of the game, but that's easily remedied if you are willing to dive into the abundant trove of user generated content available on the steam workshop.

Despite the flaws though, the game does flourish a very attractive art style with equally appealing character animations. And the included level editor is easy to pick up and use.
