After the collapse of the Qing Dynasty in 1912, a new republic came to be. But the republic was very short lived, as many people inside the newly formed republic had ties with the Qing Government. In 1913, the republic collapsed again, and there were multiple warlord states. Among them were the Kuomintang (nationalists). They were the majority in all Chinese regions, but there was also some opposition from Xi’an. Famed Mao Zedong wanted to rule China too, but Mao was a staunch Soviet ally and a communist. The Kuomintang (nationalists) and the CCP (communists) clashed over influence in many different warlord states. This would eventually stop after 1937. Japan had invaded, China stood united under the Chinese United Front. after 8 long brutal years of Japanese battles and Occupation.
