Resident Evil: Requiem showcases Capcom's continued effort to stay at the cutting edge of the survival-horror genre, just as they were with the original title back in 1996.

In Requiem, we finally get to see many of the lessons learned since the soft FPS-reboot in RE7 start to meaningfully overlap with both the gameplay and story elements from the classic games.

The RE Engine shows its prowess once again as an incredibly well-optimized powerhouse for modern graphics. It incorporates real-time global illumination and shadows, and even supports full path-tracing if your hardware can handle it.

The game is also longer than most recent entries, which is generally a good thing since some of the previous ones felt on the shorter side. That said, there is a roughly 2-hour section in the latter half where the plot somewhat crawls to a halt.

I'd recommend playing the rest of the "modern" games (REmake 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8) before picking up Requiem. Doing so will give you the best overall experience.
