I'll start of saying that I myself have progressed quite far in the game as I had the time to play it daily and for many hours right after I finished school. But it has come to my senses, especially now that many of my friends play this game with much less time on their hands than what I had back then, that this game really requires you to play it full-time.
Honestly, I'd say there's a lot to do. Probably more than enough. But it's not equally distributed along your playtime - it requires you to play for ages to unlock or afford a new ship once you're past 20 Million Credits, but it offers many high end ships for 70 Million Credits and up or below 10 Million Credits. You have to grind a lot to get ranks and money and even once you've got your ship, all you will do then is grind for the modules which are often - in total - worth more than the ship itself.
(This is too long, so I'll split it in half)
