Don't be. While it's true the game is not in the best spot it's ever been (Endwalker was the end of a decade-long story arc), there are still tons of people playing.

This week's drama mainly relates to Square cracking down on use of a mod tool that was against the TOS from the very start, nothing about this controversy will affect you if you weren't already using it. There is hundreds, if not thousands of hours of content, and by the time you catch up, more will be out.

Get the game for free, play it, make your own decisions - don't get dragged down by people mad because they can't use something that was never supported or condoned by the developer in the first place, that had serious privacy concerns to boot.

I've (obviously) played for thousands of hours - got my wife into it, several friends, and i've also met several cherished friends because of this game that I hope will be lifelong....and again, none of it had anything to do with what is being moaned about.

Wanted badly to like this. The art style is exactly my jam, and the sound isn't bad either. But the controls are awkward (moving/dashing around in the restaurant, having to mash spacebar to catch things, etc.), there's not as much procedural generation to it as I hoped, and the timing on stuff like the harpoon QTE is unforgiving. Maybe if it was $5-10 instead of $20, but as is it kind of feels like an overpriced phone game.
