What a find! I stumbled upon this game from their most recent release.

I was surprised by how there were only a couple hundred reviews. Decided to start at the beginning of Postmodern's releases with this one instead of jumping into Dark Rites... I'm so glad I did!

This game did not hold your hand. Felt refreshing to play something that forced you to really pay attention without it feeling like a second job. I just bought an English Haunting because of how much I enjoyed this one.

This game continuously found more ways to surprise me than I can count.

I remember finding Cairn from an Instagram ad of all places. When it first popped onto my phone I was thinking to myself "ha probably another fake game... but it does look kind of cool."

I played the brief demo and was blown away by the fact that not only was the game in fact real - it was also incredibly well-crafted even in its early access state.

Even leading up to the days before release I was expecting a fun and straight forward game. I even joked to people that Cairn was like if QWOP decided to become a climbing sim that didn't hate the person who was playing it. What I got was so much more.

I did not expect to walk away from this title feeling this many emotions. This story is incredibly human and visceral in the message that it conveys. It symbolizes the unending passion that can ignite within ourselves when you discover what your own personal summit is.

This struck a chord for me on many levels. What a pleasant surprise.

Don't sleep on this one!

I don't normally write reviews but felt the urge to write one for this. Ever since Frostpunk 1's release, I have advocated for people to play it. I had never seen a game weave an unspoken narrative that blurs the lines between morality and survival like FP1. Witnessing how easily my compass of what is right and wrong warp when faced with an inevitable death or from choices that favored order over empathy.

When I first launched Frostpunk 2 I was beyond excited. I kept finding myself being surprised by the new features. I applauded how they took elements of what made the original game amazing, and seemingly built on top of it. However, the more time I spent in this world, the more I began to feel my fascination receding into a state of indifference.

In the first game the stakes always felt like you were on the razor's edge of losing everything. You felt a connection to your city. To the people and the policies that affect their well being. A simple error in the early stages could send an invisible shock wave to the future that would bring you to your knees. I felt none of this in FP2.

In the same way my moral compass warped with the unrelenting frost, so did my opinion of the sequel to a beloved title. Objectively it is a pretty decent game. The mechanics are there, the graphics are pleasing, the challenge is fun enough. However, I cannot in good conscious recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the original game.

If you buy FP2, it is imperative that you know that this is a huge detachment from its predecessor. The first game is about building tall and redefining moral boundaries in order to secure your own people's survival. It is a much more intimate experience where every death is felt.

The sequel is more about building wide, playing politics, and building upon a pre-existing world. When a citizen dies, it feels inconsequential due to the vast numbers.

Look, I can see what they were going for here. I genuinely enjoyed the first 10-12 hours of this, and I appreciate 11 Bit not rehashing the same exact game. With all of that being said though, in the final hours of my play through I found myself endlessly longing for what the original game provided.

I felt a wave of nostalgia playing this game. Senses Fail is still my favorite band and I happened to be drinking code red while playing this, so I'm especially ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up now. Thank you developers for digging up my past :)

If you're on the fence, and looking at the reviews in hope that it will justify your purchase trust me when I say: Please. Buy this game.
