This mirrors the 1800s sugar trade, where slave labor enriched the wealthy. Charlie’s survival can be read as a metaphor for the Haitian slave uprising, with the poor spared while the rich perish. Some intelligent people even interpret Wonka as a Hitler figure, fleeing to South America, enslaving workers, and destroying privileged children. I think we should throw everyone named Willy into the gulag and protect our bratty children from Their Kind.
