UPDATE: I priorly did not recommend this game due to the base game act 1 having very RNG/handholding mechanics, however there is an officially support mod called "Kaycee's mod" which fixes almost all the issues with the game, with more improvements coming too. Play the base game, experience the amazing ambiance, story and experience, then play the mod for a thrilling, atmospheric rougelike with decent gameplay. At the moment, the mod is a little easy but im sure that'll change overtime.

If FTL was released in 2021, it would be called inscryption. This game introduces interesting new concepts and mechanics however unfortunately it has failed to learn from its predecessors and falls into the same pitfalls of early rougelikes. I think the dev team put way too much thought into the lore, story and ambiance that they forgot half of "video game" is well... *game*.
