WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers - Review Platform: High End PC
----------------------------------------------------

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a Soulslike that's heavily inspired by Dark Souls and Demon's Souls – and that's its biggest strength! It's a near-perfect adventure that captivated me, not just with its gameplay and level design, but also with its beautiful and its on point storytelling. Let's explore why I've fallen in love with Wuchang.

First up: the gameplay. As a Soulslike, combat is king. It's clunky, yes, just like the OG Dark Souls games, but that's part of its charm! You'll need to learn its rhythm. Beyond the basics, there are unique skills for each weapon, and an extra button for blocking or special attacks. My only minor critique? Sometimes, our character feels a bit static during attacks, leading to some frustrating misses. But that's a small issue compared to the overall experience. And let's not forget the magic spells! They look amazing and hit hard.

Fallen Feathers introduces a "Madness" system – a corruption meter for our protagonist. Killing humans increases madness, while killing monsters decreases it. You can also manipulate it with items. Why raise it? It unlocks special abilities and boosts damage (at the cost of increased damage taken). Dying with high madness spawns a powerful demon that drops your level-up points and attacks anything nearby. Clever!

The level design is another triumph. Everything is interconnected, reminiscent of Dark Souls 1, filled with secrets and multiple paths. My only complaint is the infrequent checkpoints – dying can be brutally punishing, especially in areas inspired by Demon's Souls' difficulty. But hey, the world itself is gorgeous!

Now, let's talk bosses. Initially, I wasn't impressed, but I soon discovered that each boss has a significant weakness, similar to Demon's Souls. Exploit that weakness, and victory comes easily. Fallen Feathers is full of hidden mechanics that make combat easier and incredibly satisfying to discover.

The storytelling is a masterpiece. It unfolds subtly, revealing its emotional depth upon multiple playthroughs. Some things only click when you understand the bigger picture. But the emotional impact is undeniable. It's more moving than I anticipated.

And then there's the soundtrack! It's epic and beautiful. I listen to it on repeat. Seriously it's that good.

Finally, let's address the elephant in the room: performance. It wasn't great at launch, but it's improved significantly. While not perfect, I'm confident it will be fully polished soon.

Despite some minor issues, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is one of the best games of the year, easily. I wholeheartedly recommend it. I can't wait to see what the developers do next. Maybe a DLC? Fingers crossed!

So, there you have it! My heartfelt review of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.

Update:

The Performance is getting better and better! BUT there is a new issue. Some story stuff got censored and altered where some things lose meaning. Who knows why they did it but I assume it's because (REDACTED)
