Tl;dr 7/10
This is a wonderful loveletter to classic rpgs in a lovely little bitesized lovecraftian horror story.

+There's plenty of party customization for you to tackle the challenges in the game
+lovely pixel art of various scenes of beauty to body horror.
+A fair price tag, especially if it goes on discount
+Tactical Combat is simple and clean, easy to understand and expand upon.
+While I haven't experienced it, the game has modding support.
+Class Customization is there, and you can make interesting builds. (Like for example, my main character started as an Officer, and I built them as a dodge tank that gives orders to his party members)
+Rewarded for exploration and trying to tackle obstacles in different ways.

-Story is a tad cliche near the end, and doesn't have any replayability as there are no meaningful choices to the story aside from completing quests or not.
-There is no character roleplay options, your characters follow a script, and either succeed or fail at checks. You either have a Named story character in your party for their dialogue options, or you don't and have a blank slate npc joining you to fill a role.
-Very rare obtuse methods for continuing in the story. (incredibly rare, had to look up how to proceed in a certain area, as all paths forward in the main path led to death except for an extremely obscure method)

All in all, pretty good game! I enjoyed my time with it.
I'll be on the lookout for their next game, and hope they add more roleplaying elements!

This is a fantastic lovecraftian game that explores what it means to be human.

Its a survival horror where you as the player need to make decisions, whether to feed yourself or your new pet rat baby thing. Whether to open your door for a "mother looking for her child" or a 3 eyed hooded man looking for junk to add to his collection. Whether to explore your apartment building and try to figure out whats going on, or play video games for 15 days straight (he's just like me fr).

A fantastic buy for the price. Def pick this one up.

This game, albiet is VERY rough translation, that the devs admit is a WIP, is such a gem.

There's so much player agency in all the little choices you make, people to help or not help, whether to became a hated wanted criminal feared by citizens and hunted by the government, or to follow a path of training in a sect enhancing your skills through the services they offer.
Please give this game a check, its super impressive.

Fantastic upgrade to Oblivion,

only complaint i have is if you touch the "~" key at all and it opens the command prompt page, you will not be able to unlock achievements at all anymore on that character, even if you don't use a command. Albiet it saying "if you use a command achievements will be disabled" just opening the prompt did that, so be careful if you care about the chievos.

Edit: Mods are already available for this game as much of the code is the same, you can pick up an achievement renabler on the nexus, and then go through a process of adding in the achievements you've missed.

Hello! This is an update of my Early Access review! My previous statements were it was alright, but it certainly has its flaws.

TL;DR This sentiment hasn't changed.

______________________

TG: FoA is a Scrolls-like with Souls-lite combat. My recommendation is a hesitant positive review, because although I enjoyed my time, and played it to completion, this first release week the gameplay has been heavily flawed through some game breaking bugs that may get touched on in future patches, but before I get into that I want to speak about what I like about the game.

I absolutely loved the theming, and aesthetics of the game.
A lot of people are complaining about the graphics looking dated, but that's not a concern for me. The world is interesting, scary, and beautiful in its own way. I loved stumbling upon some forgotten ruins, and finding an interesting scene of an old battle, or a Giant creature dead, in which I could then pull out my Sketchbook and make a small Sketch of the scene which I could view later.

I loved seeing parts of the world that are just mysterious but great that go unanswered, rather than having a lore dump of why there's a giant deer spirit roaming a plains area, or why these Collossal swords are left, sheathed in the earth across a mountainous area. It leaves a lot of wonder to the world that has you looking for more and more things.

The wonderful part is, that exploration is usually rewarded. If you find a weird nook somewhere in the world you think nobody is going to explore there's usually *something* there, even if its just a small chest with some minimal loot. On the other hand, you can definetly find some hidden equipment in those same nooks! Like for example, I saw a Foredweller statue off in the distance that didn't have any location markers tied to it, or quests in the area etc. Just checking it out, I saw a body slumped over near a stone. A unique sword was stuck in the stone!

Of any older games that I would compare this to, rather than the obvious comparisons of "This game is Skyrim" I would more formerly compare this game to the Gothic Franchise, or even more hesitantly, the more recent release, Avowed.

This game shares a lot of similarities with Obsidian's Avowed, the character progression/builds being tied to equipment, the region based exploration, the combat, heck even the story beats. Although, I would opt to say Avowed had some more interesting mechanics, like the puzzle solving in the various dungeons. This game had nothing like that, just basic hack and slash dungeon diving.

Unfortunately, the game also shares a lot of Avowed's shortcomings. While the earlier game was good, it fell off near the end, and the "choices" you get are 1 of 3 options; Good, Bad, or Neutral.

There are some very obvious "This is our designated good guy path, so you gotta choose it." tells, and it usually always is through some sort of self sacrifice or siding against Kamelot.

Without getting too much further into the story, I'll just say that the story gripped me in the beginning but the various other problems killed my enjoyment of that till I got to the end, such as;

-Prefomance Issues: This is mainly due to my rig being older, primarily my GPU, but stutters were common, and I had to massively reduce settings, even resolution to get a solid 60fps WITH occassional stutters.

-Quest Bugs: By the end of my playthrough I had around 10 quests that were impossible to complete due to some sort of bug that didn't allow me to progress in the quests any further. From Dialogue options not appearing, to quest triggers not working, to NPC's going missing. Out of 100 or so quests, a lot of them "explore this area and come back", a good chunk of them remaining in my quest log unable to be finished was a huge pet peeve.

-Enemy Scaling: For context, I played this game as a melee parry god build, dual wielding a fire and ice sword. Once you get a good build going enemies were either WAY too weak for you, often one shotting most of the creatures in a region, or just slow spongey enemies that were boring to fight, like the Wyrdknights that attacked you at night. Aside from I suppose the undead in the Asylum at the beginning of the game, it never felt like I was on even footing with any enemies, I was either getting killed by them, or extremely overpowered.
-------------------------

Now these things being said, they are altogether minor enough for me that I was able to get through the game once, but i don't know if I have it in me to make a second playthrough to make the opposite choices.
Maybe after the game gets a bunch of patches and some of my issues are fixed.

Game is a solid 7/10, after it gets some fixes that will likely go up.
