I've made a lot of friendships in other games, but none of them have felt more personal than the ones I've made in VRChat. This game has also taught me much more about myself, my wants, and my desires.

I agree it is unhealthy to become addicted to this game, but I also agree it is unhealthy to not socialize. With VRChat, you can disguise yourself as whoever you want to be; whoever makes you most comfortable. The dynamics of avatars allow for so much unspoken expression. And if you're like me, you might become inclined to make some avatars of your own in Blender!

That said, there is a lot the developers could do to improve their game, like making custom safety shield presets. You currently only have one custom level, but it would be nice to have multiple custom presets. The default shield levels are useless, in my opinion. Especially if you spend a lot of time in public instances.

VR Notes:

Highly recommend setting the maximum number of avatars and max avatar render distance to 10 and 10m. Also block avatars that exceed a video memory limit of 150MB. This drastically improve performance.

Steam Deck Notes:

Plays well on controller, but you will have to figure out the controls for yourself. To save on battery, I would recommend blocking all avatars that are poor or worse, setting the avatar memory limit to under 150MB, and setting the max number of avatars and distance to 10 and 10m. With these settings, you can get about 4 hours of game time out (which is quite impressive considering how unoptimized this game can be).

In terms of raw gameplay, VRChat will pick up your game volume if you are speaking through the mic. So make sure to mute whenever your not talking (lest you want to be muted by everyone for having a hot mic).
