I've been playing Battlefield games for 20 years. It's... fine. Just fine. They finally went back to their roots, and I think it mostly works. I do think they played it too safe in some aspects, though. The entire premise of the campaign - and by extension, Pax Armata as a faction - is completely and utterly absurd, but I suppose EA was afraid of alienating... certain market(s)... by making the "bad guys" real countries again. Shareholder value must go up, and all that. That, and the battle pass (on a paid game!), and everything... the game just has a weird vibe to it that it's all about money all the way down, and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

When Battlefield games hit their stride, there's nothing else like it out there - But they all invariably need some work right out of the gate at launch. BF3 and BF4 were buggy, laggy, crashy messes for at least 6 months after launch - BF6 is notably less so, but still continues the trend to a disappointing degree. The most glaring issue is that the netcode is STILL absolutely terrible. You'd think they'd have made some headway on that in the last FIFTEEN YEARS, but apparently not. Getting shot around corners, getting shot by enemies that aren't facing you, and enemies tanking 20+ rounds only to whip around and kill you in 2 rounds are all regular occurrences, no matter how good your connection is. Every gunfight feels like a coin toss, it's not satisfying, and I usually find myself shutting the game off in frustration after barely an hour of playing unless I'm with friends. I hope it'll get better in the next few months - Most other Battlefield games had similar problems at release and eventually got mostly better - But it's a long-running issue that's plagued the franchise for decades and somehow STILL hasn't been stamped out. Until it is, the game is fundamentally pretty frustrating to play in its current state and I can't really recommend it, especially for the AAA price tag.

Also the maps are small and bad. Siege of Cairo is pretty good, but that's about it. Everything else is either too small, terribly designed, or both. But the netcode is by far the main issue.

This game is fantastic. The story incredible and the depth and complexity of the gameplay is unparalleled. There are some bugs and missing quality-of-life features that were probably caused by releasing ahead of schedule, but given Larian's reliable history I expect these will be addressed quickly in upcoming patches.

I wish I could play this game, I really do. It looks awesome. Every video that I've watched online has only made me want it more, so I bought it. I didn't get very far, because I failed to read the system requirements. I've never had any trouble running any game I wanted to, but this game... The game itself costs $60, but you'll have to drop at least ten times that into just a processor and a GPU to be able to play. I expected the game to be pretty resource intensive but it literally would not run at all on my system(AMD FX-6200 6-core 3.8GHz and Radeon HD 7850). I put the resolution down to the lowest it would go and I was getting around 5 frames per second with huge lighting glitches everywhere. I couldn't even play through the opening sequence because it was so graphically intensive and the game froze several times. If you have the hardware, go for it. I'm sure it's a great game. If your PC falls within I guess the mid 50% in terms of power, make sure you check the system requirements first. I really can't say I recommend this game because it's probably not playable by the majority of people out there.

Clunky as hell, glitchy, poorly optimized, server browser never shows any servers, and the AI is the most potato thing I've ever laid eyes on.

And yet... It's still really fun.
